Classification: Civilian Five Weeks Out

by Ross Fertel, Quinque

22nd March 2022

Classification: Civilian came out on February 11, 2022 and recently celebrated its fifth week of tournament legality. There were three tournaments this past weekend and each had one deck using cards from this latest set as of the writing of this article.

Daniel Giddings made a TOS deck called Deconstruct the Dilemma Pile featuring Samuel T. Cogley, Attorney at Law. By stocking that personnel, you would figure that Legal Proceedings would be in the deck, but it is not. While it is possible that was an omission, that might not be the case since the skills on Cogley are geared towards the deck with a natural doubling of Anthropology and Law, both skills found on the missions. There is plenty of Law in the deck so adding Legal Proceedings might help but not an immense deal, even though five points is five points.

If Fritz Meissner’s Pillar of Salt looks familiar, it is very much the same deck Nathan Miracle played weeks ago with the sole addition of Ajur, Temporal Thief. Those skills on him are useful and being able to load up your dilemma pile at a strategic moment is critical, particularly with this dilemma pile. At twenty-five cards, it is pretty slim, specifically as slim as you can get, but having another tool in your arsenal could be useful in a pinch. Also, it is one instance where having Morphogenic Virus being so low with the printed cost is not too helpful.

The most popular card to come out of the set is Pillar of the Community and it was only a matter of time before we got a Dabo! Deck. Maggie Geppert did so with Do My Statuesque Dabo Girls Count as Pillars of the Community? With only six of that keyword, three Waiters and a pair each of Thieves and Smugglers, there might appear to be the lowest odds of being able to take advantage of Pillar. The rigging will always take some resources, but you can make up for that with the speed of Pillar.

As we march forward, we are seeing a tool in a classic deck along with a card finding a somewhat unintended use in competitive play. Be sure to get them in your deck for events as we have the final weekend in the month. There are several cards in Classification: Civilian ready to make their Organized Play debut.
