Duplicates and Infiltrators

by Maggie Geppert, Staff Writer

18th July 2022

James T. Kirk

When I first saw James T. Kirk, Dubious Duplicate, I was first struck by how he mirrored James T. Kirk, Highly-Decorated Captain's upgrade. I thought the download of an Android personnel would be the most obvious use, and he immediately got slotted into an old Android deck of mine. However, I kept thinking back to his other downloads and I started wondering what else I could do with them.

Exo III

However, the thing that really caught my imagination was the download of up to two Infiltration cards. I knew that some Infiltration cards weren't as culturally-enforced as some of the Punishment cards, so I thought about what I could do with them in a Non-aligned deck. I settled on getting Misdirection for the attribute drain and Undercover Resource for some extra counters.

To make the best use of Misdirection, I looked for inspiration from a game I played against Greg Dillon (Latok) a few years ago. He had a Dominion Infiltration that paired Bashir Founder, Imperturbable Infiltrator, Misdirection and Khan Noonien Singh, Genetically-Engineered Nemesis to lock you out of your missions via attribute reduction. I decided to use Piratical Boarders and One More Brush Fire to get Khan, Thelev, "Andorian" Terrorist and Kieren MacDuff, Executive Officer at my opponent's missions and wreak havoc.

The rest of a deck is a Non-aligned Smugglers and Thieves deck that's just trying to solve missions as fast as possible. I hadn't played Christopher Pike, Prospective Orion Trader yet, so it felt like it was time to try Orions. I have found that Cargo Pirates really pairs well with McDuff, and Chameloid Chicanery is suddenly very useful. Oh, and a little One-Upsmanship seemed appropriate, if a bit frivolous. I feel like I could tighten up the mission and personnel selection a bit, so suggestions for improvement would be very welcome.
