Make It So: Enter the Cardassians

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

29th December 2009

Make It So: The Search For the Next Assistant Game Designer, will be getting started in early 2010. Contestants will have the chance to compete for an Assistant Game Designer spot for an upcoming Second Edition virtual expansion. The competition will feature challenges, themes, and contests designed to challenge preconceptions and expand the mind.

On their applications, each contestant was asked to design a card that is intended to be given away to new players at conventions and large tournaments. Instead of lore, the card will have basic information about The Continuing Committee. The card should be instantly recognizable as Star Trek. Here's a little bit about each of the five members of the Cardassian Team, including their entries:

Ben Hosp (bhosp) is 28 years old and has been playing STCCG for 6 years. He hails from Webster, New York. His entry:

[NA] 3 Harcourt Fenton Mudd (Notorious Con Artist)
[Stf] [Pa] Human
•Acquisition •Anthropology •Biology •Engineer •Navigation •Treachery
Smuggler. Thief. At the start of each of your turns, if this personnel is in an opponent's brig, you may place him on your headquarters mission.

Conno Hendriksen (WeyounsLastClone) hails from Zwolle, The Netherlands, and is 28 years old. He has been playing STCCG since 1999. His entry for this competition:

[Fed] 5 Data (Measured Man)
[CMD] [TNG] Android
•Engineer •Leadership •Officer •Navigation •2 Programming •Science
When you play Data, his is cost -1 for each [TNG] personnel with Honor you command.

Ian Parmenter (Peers) is 31 years old and calls Moorhead, Minnesota (just across the border from Fargo, North Dakota) home. He's been playing seriously for about three years. His entry:

[Evt] 4 Mission Briefing at www.trekcc.org
Plays in your core. When you begin a mission attempt, name a dilemma; if you face the named dilemma, you may stop your Leadership or Officer personnel to overcome it.
"To seek out new players; to create new cards and expansions; to boldly do what no one has done before: Keep a great game alive."

Isaiah Nordhagen (grandnagusmorn) lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, but originally hails from Denver, Colorado. He is 23 years old and has played STCCG since 1998, although not as often as he would like. His entry:

[Fed] 2 Uhura (Valiant Communicator)
[Stf] [TOS] [Pa] Human
•Honor •Officer •Programming
When you play an interrupt, you may examine the top card of an opponent's dilemma pile, then place that dilemma on the top or bottom of that dilemma pile.
