Ambassadors Assemble!

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

21st February 2011

The Continuing Committee is proud to have become a solid, stable community built on the shared enjoyment of Star Trek and the games upon which it's based. Our organization has spent the past three years bringing the community together and providing a common ground upon which players can meet, compete, and develop lasting friendships.

Now, in our fourth year, we fully turn our attention to one of the most important aspects of any game: recruitment. As many of our players grow older and spend more time with their families, we run the risk of running out of players to enjoy games with. However, if we can introduce the games to new players, or bring former players back into the fold, we can enjoy games with friends at events for the next five years and beyond.

In the spirit of spreading the game all across the world, The Continuing Committee is proud to announce the long-awaited arrival of our Ambassador Program. The tradition of having players "on the ground" representing the games and the community is one dating back to the early days of organized play under Decipher, and it's one we're excited to bring back.

The most important role of an Ambassador is to make regular contact with the players. Not just the players in his or her local group, but players in surrounding groups and regions as well. The Ambassador will be the local point of contact to The Continuing Committee, sharing our plans and programs with players as well as sharing the players' concerns with us. In addition, the Ambassador will take charge of recruiting efforts in his or her area, as well as work with other Ambassadors to promote inter-group and inter-region play.

In essence, the ideal Ambassador will love to play their games of choice (First Edition, Second Edition, and/or Tribbles) and will be willing to share their passion and enthusiasm with past, present and future players in and around the community.

Many of the members of the community are already doing similar work, and for that we are eternally grateful. Our aim is to bring those hard-working folks into the Ambassador program so we can provide them with additional resources to do their work even more effectively, and across a wider area.

Members of the community that are interested in becoming an Ambassador for The Continuing Committee should do the following:

Applicants should include their first and last names, their email address, the games they play (1E, 2E, Tribbles) and a brief history of their experience with the games. For example, a message of application might look like this:

To: ikeya
Re: Ambassador
Hello Dave! My name is Charlie Plaine (cplaine@gmail.com) and I'm interested in becoming an Ambassador. I currently play all three games, but the majority of my experience is with 2E. I was a Decipher Ambassador from 2003 until the end of the game. Recently, I've been returning to play 1E and I've played Tribbles at every opportunity as well. I look forward to hearing from you!

Our plan is to compensate active Ambassadors for both their service and their performance. In addition to gaining access to early information and being able to participate in key decision making, Ambassadors will receive a modest compensation package in return for their service. Ambassadors will also receive special promotional items to distribute as part of their service (and will be welcome to keep one of each for themselves, too).

Interested applications should contact their Continental Coordinator (see above) on or before Sunday, March 13, 2011. Our goal is to have Ambassadors selected and in place before the start of Regional Season! So don't hesitate, and get your applications in today!

We're excited to see just how much we can do with Ambassadors "on the ground" in all of our Regions, and to begin the next stage of building our community. With your help, we can improve the channels of communication and expose new players from many diverse backgrounds to the fun of our games and the joy of being part of our community.
