Creative Managers Join the Fold

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

16th May 2011

After an exhaustive search, we have filled two more of the five positions posted earlier in 2011 - the Creative Managers. When I posted these positions, I never imagined how difficult it would be to select just one candidate from a list of qualified (and sometimes over-qualified) applicants. I regret that I could not offer the position to each and every qualified applicant, and that I must choose only one.

In the end, I selected the two candidates I thought would have the most time, energy and passion to bring to the position, and those that I thought would work well together. I'm proud to announce that David Runyon (superdave) and Matt Kirk (CaptMDKirk) will be taking on the roles of First Edition and Second Edition creative managers, respectively.

David has been an active member of the community for, as he puts it, "more than half (his) life." He has been working as an unofficial proofreader and consultant for 1E Design as long as the Continuing Committee has been supporting First Edition, but this is his first official role as a member of The Continuing Committee.

In his own words: "This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a game I've played for more than half my life. I look forward to telling some great stories through these little bits of paper. I hope all of you will enjoy the work I'll be doing, but please don't forget that every commander has a talented crew: I'll need some help!"

Matt is returning to TCC after a several year hiatus. Matt brings his nearly encyclopedic knowledge of the Star Trek universe to the table, and has a passion and a sense of poetics that will create dynamic and memorable Second Edition cards for years to come.

In Matt's own words: "I'm pleased to return to duty as the new Second Edition Creative Manager. The Star Trek universe has plenty of unused stories left to tell in Second Edition, and I'm looking forward to including as many as possible in upcoming expansions."

Dave and Matt will be put to work immediately, working on our GenCon releases for both First Edition and Second Edition. If you're interested in helping out our new Creative Team, stay tuned to the website for instructions on how you can volunteer to join the team and help shape the creative direction of both games' futures.
