Allen Gould Resigns as First Edition Rules Master

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

15th May 2012

I regret to announce the resignation of Allen Gould as the First Edition Rules Master, effective immediately. Mr. Gould and I reached this decision mutually after evaluation of the current state of the game and agreed that his departure from day-to-day operations is the best move for the future.

Mr. Gould has done remarkable work for this organization in his tenure as the Rules Master, and as a member of the Rules Committee prior. While his work has been tremendous, the Rules Master position demands the public confidence and it's become clear this is something that has been lost.

In his own words, Mr. Gould says that "It's been an honor to work with the many talented people behind-the-scenes, and I'm glad to have accomplished as much as I have in the past two years."

Mr. Gould's departure has left us without a sitting First Edition Rules Master. In order to provide a smooth transition, I will assume the administrative duties of the Rules Master position immediately and until the search for a replacement is complete. With the support of the members of the First Edition Rules Committee, I am confident this is a manageable set of tasks.

Our next step will be to form a Selection Committee made up of members of the community from various competitive and cultural backgrounds. I will be recruiting a group of five (5) members from the community who will be tasked with selecting the new First Edition Rules Master.

In the very near future, we will be listing the position of First Edition Rules Master on the Volunteer Resource Center. Applicants will be required to complete an online survey of questions providing information on their background and experience. Please stay tuned to the front page and the forums for further details.

Once received, the members of the Selection Committee will review the applications anonymously, meaning without any of the identifying information (to avoid any bias.) The members of the Selection Committee will identify a small number of finalists, and conduct voice-to-voice interviews with those candidates before selecting the new First Edition Rules Master. It is our hope that the new Rules Master will be selected in a timely and efficient manner.

On a final note, I would just like to say that personnel transitions are never pleasant. However, I believe that this change will lead to a new era of renewed peace and cooperation both within our internal First Edition Department and our First Edition community. We have a series of bright and big plans for First Edition and no obstacles shall stand in our way of achieving that future.

Please stay tuned to the front page, the Gameplay (1E) forum, and the Volunteer Resource Center for the latest information on our search for the new First Edition Rules Master.
