Welcome to the Wednesday 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you've got an event coming up and you'd like to be featured in this column, feel free to contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich.
April 24th is the birthday of producer Damon Lindelof, famous - or infamous, depending on your point of view - for writing and producing the 2009 Star Trek film and its first sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness. A long-time collaborator of J. J. Abrams going back to the television show Lost, Lindelof has worked extensively in both television and in film. Like or hate the Abrams films, there's no question they've helped maintain the popularity of Star Trek through today. Today is Mr. Lindelof's forty-sixth (46) birthday!
It was a quiet weekend in the world of First Edition, with no scheduled or reported events. If you played in any events, scheduled or unscheduled, formal or casual, let us know! We'd love to feature your events in this column! Send me an email or a private message, and I'll be happy to advertise your event or games to the world in a future column. My contact information is at the bottom of every column each week.
I'd also love to see some photos of your games! Snap a selfie with you, your friend, your spouse, your kids, or whomever you play Trek with, and send them to me! I'm on Twitter @MidnightLich, or you can email them to me at the link at the bottom of each column. Show us your spacelines! #showusyourspacelines

This weekend, all eyes in the world of First Edition turn to the Andoria Region, as the only event this weekend in the Regional in Roseville, Minnesota. The OTF Complete Constructed event currently has seven (7) players pre-registered. Lucas Thompson (edgeofhearing) has started a thread to predict which player will see the biggest ratings gain, and we encourage everyone to go share their thoughts. Kevin Jaeger (Hoss-Drone), the currently #1 ranked player in the world, is a favorite to win the whole event. However, he responded to my prediction with the following: "I wouldn't put my money on it this time. My deck is gonna be a total experiment... The rest of the MN crew is good and fully competent." Is he being modest, or is this a bit of misdirection? Even if Kevin is playing a weird deck, it's a mistake to discount his skill and experience.
Jeremy Huth (9of24) is a World Championship Runner Up, and a huge fan of the Borg. The Borg are complex enough to make even the most veteran players make mistakes, and always have the potential to run roughshod over a tournament. If Jeremy brings Borg, he's got a good chance of coming out on top. James Heaney (BCSwowbagger) has had two 2nd place finishes in tournaments this year already, and is both skilled and intelligent. I've recently worked with him on The Cage, and I know how deeply analytical he can be - he's definitely a threat. For that matter, Jason Tang (Pants o.t. Tal Shiar) won two tournaments last year and is an active player even now. Any of these players are good favorites to win. But don't discount the rest of the field either, as Minnesota is one of the toughest places to play and that tends to raise the quality of the players considerably.
Looking ahead, we've got four (4) more regional events across the globe over the following month. The following weekend features the start of an online regional, being hosted by Brian Sykes (Armus), and kicking off on Friday, May 3rd. To participate, you'll need to have Lackey and Skype, but it's otherwise free. Six (6) players are preregistered, including #3 ranked player Jon Carter, Michael Van Breemen (The Ninja Scot), Greg Dillon (Latok), Austin Chandler (DarkSabre), Bruce Parrish (Captain Parrish) and some scrub - Charlie Plaine (MidnightLich). It should be fun!
On Saturday of that weekend, Johnny Holeva (jjh) is hosting an OTF TNG Block Sealed event. Here's his description of the event: "OTF Sealed TNG Starter Decks 2.0 + Premiere Pack (4) Draft $10 Entry. This is the PERFECT tournament for anyone who wants to have a fun afternoon hanging with friends, drafting packs, talking Trek, and playing no-stress 1E. I'll bring TNG Starter deck 2.0 printouts (FED, KLG, and ROM) for players and assign affiliations randomly before the draft. Please bring sleeves and card backers. We'll draft Premiere (4 packs) so you can customize your deck. And there will be a few surprises. Three rounds of TNG fun. Foil prizes for all from my Trade Box! $10 entry covers the printouts, packs, and Regional fee. Email me with any questions. Please pre-register. What better way to celebrate Star Wars Day in San Diego than at Casa de Holeva with friends?! Hope to see you Saturday May 4, 2019 @ Noon!" Sounds amazing! There are four (4) players scheduled to come out, including Johnny, Rogue Shindler (SirRogue), Thomas Vineberg (Exon), and all around amazing guy JD Ashley (NerdyByNature).
On Sunday, Paddy Tye (KazonPADD) is hosting the 2019 Beccles Bloodbath as a regional. Four (4) players, including the host and Alex Dixon (alexd), who are #13 and #14 in the world, will play and have a good day of Trek.
Finally, two weeks later, the good folks in Chicago, Illinois will host their regional. Maggie Geppert (jadziadax8), our current Chair and Exective Officer, will be hosting and four (4) players, including herself, are pre-registered.
