James Heaney is the New 1E Rules Manager

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

28th January 2020

Today, I'm happy to announce that James Heaney (BCSWowbagger) has accepted the position of First Edition Rules Manager. The selection committee for this position consisted of myself, Jordan Smith (Mogor), and Kris Sonsteby (LORE). We interviewed four (4) excellent candidates for this position, but in the end found that James was the unanimous pick of the committee. All of the candidates brought something unique to the table, but ultimately James' experience and qualifications pushed him to the top.

Jordan had this to say about the choice of James for this position:

"I found James to have extensive knowledge in the 1E rules. His project on the rulebook revision and activity in the forums were all strong reasons to select him. There were other great candidates but he came in ahead of them."

James had this to say about taking on this new role:

"I'm honored to be the new Rules Manager for First Edition. Back in 2014, I wrote a new rulebook. I did this partly on a dare, partly out of frustration with the game's high learning curve, and partly because I found the rules very confusing and thought this would be a good way to learn them. A few weeks after posting the first draft, I was invited to join the Rules Committee, where I have served very happily for the past five years. Under Jon Carter's mentorship, I've done some of the behind-the-scenes work with uploading the CRD and ghostwriting an article occasionally. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to advance Jon's legacy of rules stability, clarity, and creative fidelity to the fundamentals of First Edition, the best game on Earth. I look forward to fielding your rules-related questions and concerns in coming years."

James will be taking the position immediately, replacing the outgoing Rules Manager Jon Carter (pfti). Again, I want to take the time to thank Jon for his years of service and express my gratitude for the era of stability he brought to the game. Jon will be remaining on the Rules Committee, a fact in which both James and I take great comfort.

James will begin work as the Rules Manager immediately. In the mean time, we invite all of you to comment on this choice and ask questions of James. He'll be checking into the thread about this appointment regularly to address questions, and you can expect more information to be coming for James about his selection and his plans in the coming months. He's already hard at work on an updated for next Monday, February 3rd, 2020.

Please join me in welcoming James to his new role as 1E Rules Manager.
