Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day, First Edition fans! No matter how - or if - you're celebrating this romance-themed holiday, I hope it marks the start of a great weekend for you. All of us here in the Department of First Edition wanted to get you a gift, to let you know how much we love and appreciate you. We looked into getting chocolates, but some of you are watching your sugar and that felt insensitive. Likewise, we rejected the idea of getting you all flowers because of allergies. And the logistics and expense of taking you all out to dinner were just too prohibitive. In the end, we decided to do something we do pretty well: give you a new card!

Mr. and Mrs. Troi is a new dual-personnel card from Star Trek: Nemesis. If you aren't familiar with dual-personnel, they are a single card that represents two personnel working together. Here's the entry from the Rulebook: "They count as two personnel, but the individuals on a dual-personnel card have a linked destiny: what happens to one usually happens to the other. If either personnel on a dual-personnel card is: stopped, killed, captured, moved, removed from play, downloaded, reported for free, or otherwise experiences some change in status or position (for example, is phased, "held by aliens", or changes affiliation), then the same thing automatically happens to the other personnel on the card. This version of both William T. Riker and Deanna Troi represent them as a wedded couple, fresh from their traditional human ceremony at the beginning of Nemesis. You get two OFFICER-classification personnel and two valuable icons on a single card. Combined, this power couple gives you six (6) skills and some beefy attributes; of course, the trade off is losing access to the other versions of Riker and Troi. In exchange, you get all of the above in a single card that can use Holoprogram: Cafe des Artistes to net you a card draw. And with two different ways to download this card - Defend Homeworld and/or Going to the Top - there's a lot of value in this Valentine's-themed card.

Mr. and Mrs. Troi are available now for a free download right here on The Continuing Committee's website. You can start building decks with this couple immediately, or download the PDF and print out some copies for later use. This new card, as with all new cards, will be legal in all tournament formats that allow virtual cards one week from today, on Friday, February 21st.
