Welcome to Worlds 2021 in Chicago

by Kris Sonsteby, Director of Organized Play

28th March 2021

The City of Chicago, Illinois and the surrounding player base hope you will join them this fall for the 2021 World Championships. All the events will transpire at Good Games Chicago the weekend of October 7th – 10th. This venue previously played host to the 2018 Continental Championships, and is ideally situated for several reasons:

At the time of this writing, only the main events are scheduled in the system. However, many side events, including but not limited to sealed, draft, and team tournaments, will be scheduled as the event date gets closer. The organized play department would love to hear what you would like to participate in, so please reply to the article thread at the bottom of the page to tell us what types of side events you are most likely to play in. Chances are that those tournaments will occur at some point over the weekend! You can also jump over to the 1E and 2E Gameplay forums for rules questions, deck assistance, or just to start the chatter about who and what will win this year at the World Championships.

Thursday, October 7th

Events on this day will be at primary event organizer Mrs. Maggie Geppert’s house in Mount Prospect, Illinois. This is due to the one unfortunate drawback of the venue; participants are not allowed to bring in alcohol. She does not want to say much right now but she promises that one of the side events will require it, necessitating a private residence venue. If you have not had the pleasure of being in the Basement of Doom before, be forewarned! All participants from out of town will also be offered a “welcome shot” of Malört to jump start their respective Worlds weekend. So, get on over to the Geppert residence on Thursday the 7th for Mandatory Fun! ™

Sunday, October 10th
