World Championships 2022 Announcement

by Kris Sonsteby, Director of Organized Play

16th April 2022

The Continuing Committee and our local organizers are proud to announce that the 2022 World Championships for all three games - First Edition, Second Edition, and Tribbles - will take place October 7th through the 9th at Campus Cards and Games 2 in Winter Park, Florida. The greater Orlando area has played host to numerous high level events over the years, including but not limited to last year's North American Continental Championships and an internationally well attended World Championships in 2017.

At the time of this writing, only the main events have been entered into the tournament system although side events and the ever popular WCT Qualifiers will be scheduled in the coming months. As we want to see as many players as possible enjoying the side events, please post your suggestions in the World Championships update thread or on either of the 1E or 2E Gameplay forums to tell us what alternative formats you would be interested in attending. With that said, here is your lineup card for the 2022 World Championships:

Friday, October 7th

The festivities will formally begin with Day 1 of the First Edition World Championships. This tournament will be five rounds of standard constructed play using the OTF rules. Once the dust settles, the top eight marauders will advance to Day 2 to determine our next 1E World Champion.

Saturday, October 8th

While the 1E-only crowd enjoys some side action, the hardcore among us as well as the 2E-elite will fire off Day 1 of the Second Edition World Championships. This tournament will also be five rounds of constructed play using the standard rules. Once the smoke clears, the top eight gun slingers will advance to Day 2 to determine our next 2E World Champion.

Then around 6:00 p.m., we will shift gears back to the original game as Day 2 of the First Edition World Championships takes center stage. This tournament will be three rounds of standard constructed play using the OTF rules. Tune in to find out who will be the latest contender to claim the 1E crown!

Sunday, October 9th

Our final day of competition begins with Day 2 of the Second Edition World Championships. This tournament will also be three rounds of constructed play using the standard rules. Tune in to find out who will be the next combatant to hoist the 2E title belt!

Finally, we will close out the competition fueled weekend with the Tribbles World Championships, starting around 2:00 p.m. with the preliminary heats. The prelim tournament(s) will be five rounds with the table winners advancing to the finals. Tune in to find out who will be the best breeder in all the land!

As the head off down the Road to Worlds, be sure to check both the front page and the World Championships update thread for additional information regarding nearby hotels, restaurants, side event schedules, and more. On behalf of the entire Organized Play team, we cannot wait to see you this October in sunny Orlando over Indiginous People's Day weekend as we celebrate our three great games. Don't miss it!
