I get that they're doing it as the requisite call out (see also: McCoy touring the D, Enterprise and Voyager docked at DS9, Archer's dog in the movies, and half of all Enterprise episodes ), but I suppose the only thing it establishes is why Spock is ace - when your family life includes "yeah, I have multiple siblings that my father never bothered telling me about", no wonder he's not interested in a marriage!
