I know this has come up over the years but my Insurrection analysis got me thinking about rankings and I'm not sure if there's ever been a dedicated thread discussion on it.

So here's mine. Feel free to add yours and/or tell me why I'm wrong.

Original Series Movies:
1. The Undiscovered Country (VI)
2. The Wrath of Khan (II)
3. The Voyage Home (IV)
4. The Search for Spock (III)
5. The Final Frontier (V)
6. The Motion Picture (I)

Next Generation Movies
1. First Contact (VIII)
2. Nemesis (X)
3. Insurrection (IX)
4. Generations (VII)

JJTrek Movies
1. Beyond
2. Star Trek
3. Into Darkness

Overall Rankings:
1. First Contact
2. The Undiscovered Country
3. The Wrath of Khan
4. Beyond
5. The Voyage Home
6. Nemesis
7. The Search for Spock
8. Insurrection
9. Generations
10. Star Trek
11. The Final Frontier
12. The Motion Picture
13. Into Darkness

This list is objectively correct:

1 The Undiscovered Country
2 The Wrath of Khan
3 First Contact
4 The Voyage Home
5 The Search For Spock
6 Generations (Mostly this high up for Tolian Soran)
7 Star Trek
8 The Final Frontier
9 The Motion Picture
10 Insurrection
11 Nemesis
12 Into Darkness
13 Beyond (The opening monologue, where Teen Kirk whined about how bored he was with Space Adventure, filled me with a rage that did not dissipate for the rest of the movie. The weariness of the crew in TUC worked because they'd been alive for more than five and a half seconds. The villain having the depth of Dark Helmet didn't help.)

I thought I did a thread on this a while back, but can't find it...

Off the top of my head:

1. The Wrath of Khan
2. First Contact
3. The Voyage Home
4. The Search for Spock
5. Star Trek Into Darkness
6. The Undiscovered Country
7. Star Trek (2009)
8. Generations
9. Insurrection
10. Star Trek Beyond
11. Nemesis
12. The Final Frontier
13. The Motion Picture

This is my word, and as such is beyond contestation.

Maybe if enough people do a 1-13 list, we can compile average community rankings, provided no one tries to "fix" scores by ranking movies too high or too low on purpose.

3. Voyage Home
4. Undiscovered Country

Freshly bubble-sorted for ya:

1. Insurrection
2. The Wrath of Khan
3. The Search for Spock
4. The Undiscovered Country
5. First Contact
6. Beyond
7. The Voyage Home
8. Generations
9. Star Trek 2009
10. Nemesis
11. The Motion Picture
12. The Final Frontier
13. Into Darkness

*TWOK is a more consistent and better-constructed movie than Insurrection. Insurrection is tops only because its extraordinary highs more than make up for its flaws. Ditto Beyond vs. TVH, come to think of it.

Here, read this:
PICARD: We are betraying the principles upon which the Federation was founded. It's an attack upon its very soul. And it will destroy the Ba'ku just as cultures have been destroyed in every other forced relocation throughout history.
DOUGHERTY: Jean-Luc, we are only moving six hundred people.
PICARD: How many people does it take, Admiral, before it becomes wrong? A thousand? Fifty thousand? A million? How many people does it take, Admiral?
TROI: Taking the Captain's yacht out for a spin?
WORF: Seven metric tons of ultritium explosives, eight tetryon pulse launchers, ten isomagnetic disintegrators.
RIKER: Looks like you're planning on doing some hunting?
PICARD: Return to your quarters. That's an order.
RIKER: No uniform? No orders.
LAFORGE: Captain. How could I look at another sunrise, knowing what my sight cost these people?
DATA: I feel obliged to point out that the environmental anomalies may have stimulated certain rebellious instincts common to youth which could affect everyone's judgment. ...Except mine, of course.
CRUSHER: Okay, Data, what do you think we should do?
DATA: Saddle up. Lock and load.
PICARD: It must have been strange for you when you were a hostage. Surrounded by all the friends and family you knew all those years ago. Each one looking exactly as they did then. Like ...looking through the eyes of childhood again. And here you are closing those eyes, trying not to see what bitterness has done to the Son'a. How it's turned Ru'afo into a madman. And you? It's turned you into a coward. A man who denies his own conscience.
GALLATIN: Get in! Get in.
PICARD: A coward without the moral courage to prevent an atrocity. You offend me.
GALLATIN: Is this how a Federation officer pleads for his life?
PICARD: I'm not pleading for my life. I'm pleading for yours.
There. In three quote blocks, you just saw a better and more Star Trek-ky Star Trek movie than the entirety of Star Trek '09 combined.

And they did it on a third of the budget, without the Tom Hanks role the studio wanted, without the Leonard Nimoy role Abrams got.

Insurrection is a breathtaking achievement -- despite its warts (and gorches).

1. The Undiscovered Country Flawless masterpiece
2. The Wrath of Khan KHAAAAAAN!!!
3. First Contact This would be my #1, if they hadn't introduced the Borg Queen and gave the once formidable foe a face. BAD choice.
4. The Voyage Home High on LDS. Took Doc Brown's Bird of Prey and went beyond 88 mph
5. The Search for Spock Solid. Turned death into a fighting chance to live
6. Generations Hated it back in the day. I like to watch it nowadays. Gets better with age
7. Nemesis I very much enjoyed all the Romulus/Remus stuff. Clone storyline was a little far fetched though
8. The Motion Picture This one drags. Try not to fall asleep. I dare you!
9. The Final Frontier Shatner shouldn't have traded the captain's chair for the director's chair. Honorary mention for the camping scene.
10. Star Trek (2009) An ok reboot. Much more Fast & Furious in space but at least the character chemistry was fun
11. Insurrection A tale of beardless Rikers and joysticks
12.
13.
14.
15. Star Trek Into Darkness Cringeworthy and bearable at best
16.
17.
18.

99. Star Trek Beyond Undoubtedly the worst stinking pile of GAAAHBAGE I've ever had to witness

Oh no! Ben is angry at new Trek again! :D

Agreed 100% on your thoughts on FC though. Q-Who is still THE essential Borg episode.

I watched that Voyager one with the Borg kids and almost smashed my TV in anger. The cube gets fucked by a shuttle??? BS!

I ended up watching Enterprises Regeneration afterwards (which I enjoy, though convoluted) to numb the pain.

So it looks like the rankings list will be capped at 13 for awhile...

Despite Ben's hate for Beyond, if the last thing people see from Trek on the big screen is the JJTrek cast regarding a cast picture from ST VI, that's hardly the worst sendoff. In many ways it's quite appropos.

That nod to the original series cast, and Nimoy specifically, makes it much more easy to forgive whatever flaws the rest of that movie has IMO.
