Come visit our functioning Utopia over in The Dojo's Discord Server!

We have mostly all the same, active posters that these boards here do plus more from around the internet but with no drama and no CoC.

Invite link is in my signature below.

Yeah, it's not the fact that people argue about star track cardz. Whenever we get together IRL there's arguing about dumb star track cardz, then after the booze (In Texas anyway) people start arguing about even dumber shit. It's the fact that it gets viscous on the boards, and that has to do with the faceless 90s style format we're using (as BigBen pointed out).

(hypothetical argument in my head, so nobody takes this personal) Now someone might say, 'Well John, I'm not nasty, you're the one getting banned. You're right, and it's probably because you're being a passive-aggressive bitch (which I consider nasty). And me pointing that out in real life is acceptable, but in this archaic format it'll get you exiled.

I'm slowly getting to the point where even I'm tired of figuring it all out, and it's futile anyway. BigBen has convinced me it's time to move on.

This thread is awful. I see why people leave this site to make FB pages and their own cards. smh.

Dojo is also faceless and also online and also has most of the same people - but doesn't have this. Maybe that should be a sign to everyone that this isn't caused by 'human nature', or the CC, or even the CoC - but the attitudes of some people here in terms of what they think is appropriate behavior on the boards.

I think it's largely driven by people with different personalities. I like to argue and tease my friends (and vice versa) about anything or anyone, in-person or online. In the last 24 hours, my text messages with friends has included hilarious commentary on black face, banning milk, and Denver airport bathrooms. Many people thrust into those conversations would call it toxic and freak out. I'd say 'chill out' and not be so sensitive.

I wouldn't say it is unintentional, but usually after writing one of my nasty posts I am left laughing at it - and not brooding over some hatred as others may perceive it.

So I suppose the best way to continue participating here is to appeal to the lowest common denominator - never criticize, always be a fanboi. Or be denounced.

Or they could just not act like a total jerk when doing so. If someone has to be a complete ass in order to criticize something, they need to learn some better communication skills.

Lots of people on the Dojo (which I only bring up because it is the same community, only functioning) criticize all sorts of things and get into arguments - we're just fairly respectful when we do so.

So out of curiosity, what happens if somebody goes full asshole in the Dojo? Are there any consequences for shitty behavior? If so, what are they?

Dude, I got my head bitten off for trying to figure out how Hippocratic Oath works. The bar for being called a jerk around here is incredibly low.

Last person who did something like that in the Dojo ragequit when people asked them to stop, so we've been relying on common decency so far I guess. What would have happened if they just kept going and shouting into the void... you'd have to ask TK I guess.

I don't know where that was, or what actually happened so I can't say much one way or the other; but if someone blew up at you just for asking questions, they'd be the one being a jerk.

He's referring this thread, unless I am mistaken. There was a misunderstanding about the way the card worked. I misinterpreted the spirit of his question as well as the way the mechanics of the card worked. Others pointed out my mistake. I apologized for my misinterpretation. But, I think it would be way overstating it to say anyone "bit his head off." While the debate was certainly spirited, it was mostly civil. I think the nastiest it ever got was when the testing and errata process were described as "the swamp" and it was suggested that the incoming 2E Director fire the lot of us.

Don't guess, you're right. For now, The Dojo operates on mutual trust. You cannot have a community (or corporation, which the CC not technically is) without trust.

The CoC is a book of laws. Once you have that you're making a statement (however well intentioned) that you don't trust.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lk0SivGxrM

The CC is doomed. I don't say this with glee. Like the video talks about, we all have a little rascal in us. Problem is, some people in this community (the ones who seem to be angry about "jerks") are unconscious of themselves, and unaware they are the same (I used to say 'everyone trolls in their own way'). You simply can't do business with these people. And now they relegated these boards, and eventually the entirety of the CC to a slow death.

I would've been nasty in pointing out you didn't know how 2E dilemmas worked and thought you could simply not place a Medical personnel on a planet. Hey, I don't know how 2E rules work most of the time either, but I'm not running to be 2E Grand Poobah.

And you would have done so happily, I imagine.

I'm not running to be Rules Master. I've never claimed infallible. When you get to a point where you never make a mistake on card interpretation, I'll take your critique more seriously.

I can't promise I'll never make a mistake. What I can promise is that when I do, I'll own it, I'll apologize for it, I'll learn from it, and I'll try not to repeat it.
