Second Edition Goings on this Week(end)

I'm a little bit puzzled by this article.

It tells us about "some 2E friendly things you can do this weekend!".

And while some may feel watching season 2 of Discovery and an MTG pre-release could be considered 2E friendly, I'm wondering why actual 2E events happening in Atlanta, London and Texas aren't mentioned.

That's a misstep by Ross. Can't be pimping Magic and trying to sell it as recruitment. I wouldn't want somebody trying to push different games at a trek event (that's how Len and I inadvertently killed 1E with Raw Deal almost 18-19 years ago).

BigBen is right, sell the locals on the schedule.

Texas- "Is Speed Dead?" Event (actually it's "Are these Speed Decks?)

Mom- [Rom] [GQ] (55 cards, splash of GUYS/PP/Power Shift. That's kinda speed)
Dad- Mirror [1E-DS9] Kill Battle (definitely not speed)
Cameron- [Bor] Overrun (weenie speed)
Connor- [Kli] Treachery (2 mission, and it's attempts pretty quickly)

Those events are already being promoted by their local groups. I plan on showcasing decks played at past events, but there were none last weekend. You saw some of those in the prior article.

That being said, if you want me to promote locals, let me know.

Tell that to Snapple!

Also, I'm looking at it more as people going to a Magic release event anyway and there not being any harm is having a couple extra decks on hand. There are a few players in the community the play both games for this to not be entirely a waste.

Nobody should have to let you know to ABC.

Well as I mentioned multiple times on numerous threads, I believe one of the departments where the CC lacks the most is promotion.
I'm not only talking butts-in-seats promotion. That of course is up (mainly) to the local organizers. Even though I'd love to see a more organized support to help local organizers promote their stuff.
Take for example sporting events. They're not only appealing to the people participating in them. Sporting events tend to have an audience.
I believe nerds like us care about what other nerds like us are doing. As evidenced by this thread.
I'm very much interested in what's gonna be going on in Atlanta and Texas this weekend and I'm not talking about only discussing decks. I'm interested in whether people have a good time. Whether the game is at a state where it provides good entertainment. Whether there's some fucked up card or combo that ruined everybodys day.
In short: Promote upcoming events and keep the audience up to date whith what's going on.
This should be an absolute given for high level events but I belive locals to be every bit as important because they're the groundwork for everything that comes after.

Since Corbett Compound events aren't bound by space/time Sunday's tournament is happening today. Decks:

Mom- [Bor] Overrun
Dad- KCA Murder
Connor- [Kli] 2-win Treachery
Cameron- [Rom] [GQ]

(I reconsidered giving a 9 year old Borg Overrun with a Overwhlemed Pile. That's a little complicated)

Round 1-

Mom FW v. Dad 100-70- Mom bluffing Dad going w/ 7 at last attempt with no mission skills. Bad dilemma draw, Unyielding prevents stopping the Queen with Abrasive Allies. Borg Queen swaps all the skills in. :(

Connor MW over Cameron 60-35. Connor's Chula Pile getting it done.

Round 2-

Dad FW over Cameron 100-55- Dad murders a whole mess of Romulans in the Gamma Quadrant. Cameron goes with 9. Dad pops 2 Predicament and then one Entanglement for 18 to spend. Ruff.

Connor MW over Mom 60-30- No Unyielding this time. Brave Words + Slightly Overbooked stop Mom from winning. Connor also gets props for using 3-cost Duras to get past Environmental Contaminants.

Round 3- after dinner

Mom MW Cameron 65-40. Rough Day for politics on Romulus.

Connor FW Dad 100-40. Dad says 'you've played against this deck before, just wait then double crew your missions'. For the first time Connor listens to his Dad. :(

Connor wins his first tournament with flithy traitor [Kli] .

Orlando this weekend...

John Kinney won the 2E tournament (your choice of a virtual sealed deck with any 3 Decipher booster packs). He chose DS9.

I finished 2nd. Rick Kinney was third. We both played Starfleet.

There were two Ferengi decks that did not do well. The virtual starter decks have a ship problem that needs to be fixed whenever someone decides to update them.

* * *

I won Tribbles using an all Trials and Tribble-lations decks for the achievement (the last expansion specific Tribble achievement I was missing). Martin Drake came in second followed by Matthew McClain.

* * *

Afterward, Joe Bazemore and I played two games of Transformers. I really like this game. I won both games, but both were very close. The funny part is we used two of the same Autobot in the first game and Specialists in the second one (we didn't know in advance what the other was going to play so that worked out in a weird way).

* * *

If anyone is coming to Orlando on vacation soon, the next tournaments will be held on:
February 23 (2e constructed / Tribbles without Troubles)
March 16 (2e constructed / Tribbles without Troubles)

Nick: [Bor]
Will: [TN]
Thorsten: [DS9]
Sandra: [Kli]
Danny: [TNG]
and myself [Dom]
So far I'm 0 - 2 lost against Sandra cuz of some fumbles I made and the got my ass(imilated) by Nick.
Good times though!

Well, Joe has lost to his 13-year-old son (who doesn’t play Trek or Tribbles). I think anyone 8 and up could get the hang of it pretty quickly. The hardest part is not deck building or battling - it’s actuallu deciding when to flip your bot from robot to alt mode (or vice versus).
