Last week was all about gaming in general and it went horribly. Let us try again, shall we?

Suppose we have learned a new game. We've gone through the rules, examined the components, even gone through a demo showing everything off. We are about to take off the training wheels but the game has a sliding scale. How hard do we want the game to be?

Do not focus on the mechanism for the difficulty. It could be anything from as simple to a modifier (minutes one to offensive die rolls, less pieces to place) all the way up to a few specific rules to make things harder. It could be a video game that had formal difficulty settings.

Yes, each game is different but in general how much a challenge are you up for?

Easy. I prefer focusing on the story, quests, etc without having to plan out battle details. Even on video games I've played repeatedly like Skyrim or Witcher, I pick the Easy/Just the Story setting.

I went Medium. I think the Deus Ex: HR* difficulty description of Medium sums it up best:

"You enjoy a good story and a good challenge. This is how the game was meant to be played."

*Like AVB, a game I play repeatedly (some might say religiously).

I’m usually pretty middle of the road on difficulty level, although with CCGs, I apparently jumped right into hard mode, at least according to @Fritzinger.

I'm probably going to start at medium. And if I'm playing with a group, I probably won't push to go beyond that, because I know the people I play games with prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

If I'm playing on my own, I may move up to hard mode. Different game designers have different conceptions of "hard." If they take "hard" to mean you need to be better at the game, that's good; if they take "hard" to mean you have to hope not to get hit by random "you lose" junk, no thanks.

I voted "medium" because that's where I'd usually be.
