So we just had a great time recording the reveal show.

In addition to the Ballot Reveal we had hot takes from not one but TWO Corbetts - that's double your Corbett Pleasure with both Rob (@trekwars2000 ) and John (@KillerB ), and the special guest appearance on Raw Deal Island by BigBen (@monty42 ) was a great last minute addition to the lineup!

Big thanks to all three for joining the program this evening! :cheersL:

For those who are interested, you can watch the hot takes, drunken shenanigans, and other general nonsense here. Apparently I got victimized by my Alabama internet, but my takes don't matter anyway. :P

These additions to the retirement list are effective as soon as @eberlems works his magic to update the master list, or March 15, whichever comes first.

So there it is, the Hall of Fame Class of 2022!

What are your reactions? Happy? Sad? Angry? Was there a particular card you wanted to see in that didn't make it, or was there a card that got in that makes you sad because you can't use it anymore? Post all of your reactions below!

And once again, a big THANK YOU to everyone who voted! It's your collective voice that's getting heard here, and the fact that the only way a card gets retired is by community consensus means that this class is really reflective of the community's will, as it should be! :cheersL:

@Armus there's places you can go to get faster internet though...
Maybe we can get Elon Musk to send you one of the gadgets they sent to the Ukraine though...

Interesting choices and results.

There are three that make me wonder what's going on in people's minds, though:

  • Assess Contamination - played once this year (2022), once last year (2021), and three times the year before (2020) - why the fear/hate now?
  • Enterprise, Damaged Starship - played three times in 2021... all in HoF format (with no games played in Standard).
    • So, players in Standard already 'got over' Damaged Starfleet, HoFamers resurrected it for their games (sans the Commander, who'd already been nixed), had it take two silvers and a bronze, decided it was still too good, then decided to nerf it?
  • Firestorm - unplayed in 2022 (but it's still early), and only once in 2021 (in a deck that finished 9/10). Mixed results in 2020, but when it played in HoF games, the decks took gold and silver podium places.
    • Again, not overly popular in the very recent history, but still enough of a bogey-man in people's minds to have it not see play again this in format?
That said, all of the above have appeared in hundreds of decks, and the format only accepts cards that are 5 or more years old. I guess it's always going to be driven by what people remember getting screwed over by, rather than what's currently causing them headaches.

@Danny I think there's a few different mentalities involved with HoF voters:

[SD] They vote for the overplayed stuff, a lot of which has already been retired.

[SD] They vote for the broken stuff (even if it's not broken anymore)

[SD] They vote for the cards that have had a career, even if that career was awhile ago.

When evaluating results, it helps to look through all three lenses and not just one to get a fuller picture.

Also, keep in mind that for most people, frequency of play the last couple years has declined, so "game memory" of stuff 2-3 years ago gets retained longer than it would if we were all still playing in monthly tournaments or whatever.

.

positives:
Audacious Assault is gone, good. Next will be Mobilization Points...
The community thinks HQs should be safe... good.

mixed:
Locutus and Borg Queen (by 1 vote.. meh) gone, oh well..

negatives:
stupid Trellium avoided retirement again
No Peace in our Time... this card was designed when there were maybe 3 or 4 Treachery Klingons around, now it's a deck type that is above the power curve imho.... will be auto nomination in the future for sure.

I consider this a net positive.

Those two have been Borg crutches since the beginning. With 2 other Locutus options and 4 other Borg Queen options, I'm curious to see what new Borg decks can be made.
