Making a deck is an art. A Science, An experiment.

And sometimes, a disaster.

Every now and then, a theory will come along and while it sounds great and builds nicely, it just falls apart when put into practice. This can be something as simple as synergy not being as strong as you thought or just not having the right combination of cards in your hand when you needed them. Sometimes you can tweak the deck to workability but not always.

Sound off with a deck you built that just didn't work and tell us why.

My [Bor] Dissdent / [TOS] [DS9] Staffer Deck just never quite works how I want it to, despite attempts to tweak the number of cheap [TOS] Diplomacy personnel and such. My attempt to add the Think Tank just messed up the balance even more.

Mirror Starfleet/ Tillman was probably one of my biggest faceplants ever.

I made World finals with Tillman. I made World finals with Mirror Starfleet. But when I put those two tier one ideas together it was a total crash and burn.

Why? Well, Mirror Starfleet doesn't like cards in hand, and one of the things about an effective Tillman deck is you have to keep your battle cards in hand until it's time to pounce. Trying to get those two concepts to play nice together just didn't work, as my 0-fer the tournament record demonstrated.

So yeah. Lesson learned.

My [DS9] [GQ] decks almost always seem to fall flat. I think it's mostly the mission selection, since I try to go for science builds and that mission set isn't super coherent.

After some success with a NeuRomulus stalking deck, I tried my hand at a Ferengi option with the Stargazer and using it to lose battles and really jam cards under Ferenginar. Very little success as, while the concept is easy to explain, there are a plethora of micro-setups that need to happen to make it work, all of which slow it down.

Try this:

(one mistake in the decklist, Quark's Treasure should be in there)

I played this in a tournament and won 3 games, should have won more but I am old and forgot twice to use things to win games I lost... I think a better player can crack this.

I tried pairing Tribunal Sentencing with original Unsavory Customers to be a real dick.
Unsavory is too unreliable because the opponent has to attempt three times and you have to draw it every time, so the smaller you make the pile in order to draw it reliably the more chance you consume one. Plus Tribunal takes plenty of time to set up itself, so by the time they are down to 1, 2 or 3 counters they're already on 70 and have 12 people in play, so they don't really care. Also any Earth HQ deck makes Unsavory basically useless in a non-Terra Prime deck.

I've got a deck that twice hasn't worked as I'd hoped or expected, but, what with (historically) the third time being "the charm", I'll see how its latest iteration fairs in the upcoming Masters... of the Universe IV!
