It's Wednesday! We're more than halfway through the week. Since we are over the hump, let's look at a question!

One of the upcoming First Edition sets focuses on one personnel per affiliation, including as as yet unreleased one! This is nothing new. For either game. We got a Quark and Rom in the third set, Call to Arms

There have been other ways to get an off affiliation personnel in play. A few ships report to Earth. Interstellar Treaty will get your moderate to cheap diplomat out while Loren III, Combined Discovery will give you an Archeology Commander. Multidimensional Transport Device will let you swap out a personnel with the same card title.

I'm sure I've missed one. heck, I'm sure I've missed eight! Let us know your favorite way to get an off affiliation personnel, regardless of the affiliation being released or not, into play.

There are some instances where you can drop off-color personnel onto a ship if they're a matching commander and you're using Captain on the Bridge. For instance, a bunch of [DS9] personnel can report to the [Dom] U.S.S. Defiant, Commandeered Warship.

My favourite (in theory, rather than practice) is Nimbus III, Staff Backwater Embassy.

It's good theming but I really dislike the way it opens up the Commons verbs to pretty much everybody.

Really dilutes the flavor (to say nothing of the power implications) of those cards.

I'll never fully understand why Decipher didn't tie some of those to [H] instead of personnel in play. Especially given that the very first set included [DS9] which blurred multiple affiliations.

Change my mind, verbs should have had the option of having an affiliation/faction symbol next to cost that indicates it has to have a [H] where that faction could be played.

But that's not the choice Decipher made, and that's too much to change now, even if we wanted to.

Although it does (open up non- [Fed] non- [Kli] non- [Rom] decks up three new affiliations), I just don't know if it's worth it.

It doesn't look like others know if it is either: this Nimbus has been used 11 times. Of those 11 decks, 4 decks used Common Purpose. Of those 4, 1 of those was a DS9 deck and 1 was a TNG deck (both which already has access to those affiliations), and the last 2 were (near identical) TOS decks (meaning Nimbus just added a [Rom] ).

It just seems like a lot of effort.
