It's Wednesday! We're more than halfway through the week. Since we are over the hump, let's look at a question!

With the newest set, Realm of Fear, there is a New Headquarters which is getting lots of attention. It is simple enough on the surface; intelligence personnel form two affiliations, two specific classes of ships and one Quadrant to wander around.

So this week, pitch the next HQ. What would be a good candidate with enough to chew on but not as much to be overpowered? As was the case with Orias III, there can be a card (or three) to help it along but nothing like, say, Khan which introduced lots of cards to get it running.

Remember I am not a decision maker on this, but who knows who will be looking at this thread ...

I have been suggesting a [H] where Vulcans can play. Not even creating a new template and new affiliation, just a [H] where all Vulcan species could play. A [H] where just [Pa] [Kli] could play ( with perhaps [Pa] [NA] ), a [H] where just [Pa] [Rom] could play ( with perhaps [Pa] [NA] ).
[TE] sounds fun! Of course I am all in on some [2e-Hir] !!

There are a variety of “team-up” HQs which would be thematically interesting. Each one has pros and cons.

[Pa] [Baj] / [Pa] [Car] - Occupation era Terok Nor.

Pros: It covers some powerful episodes, and brings a good amount of star power with Kira, Odo, Dukat and potential for a new Quark.

Cons: Only 20 eligible personnel right now (19 if you don’t count both versions of Akorem Laan). Only two of those personnel are non-unique. And there are no available ships. It would almost have to include some sort of KCA-style addition of the [Pa] icon, which makes it feel a lot less thematic.

[Pa] [Kli] / [Pa] [Rom] - The Technology Sharing Treaty

Pros: Fairly large existing pool of cards, including ships. Plenty of potential for more, both from TOS and Enterprise. Probably would not need any support other than an HQ.

Cons: Thematically it should just be TOS, but Enterprise-era gets swept up into it. Plus we just plain don’t need it, as [Pa] [Kli] and [Pa] [Rom] are deck types unto themselves. Durgforaday probably has it right that they could each use their own HQ rather than doing an alliance one.

[Bor] / [Voy] - Scorpion

Pros: Probably the most interesting pairing, given that both Borg and Voyager have always been restricted in terms of running them with other strategies.

Cons: Difficult to find the right “hook” for who should be eligible, especially on the Voyager side. (Borg could maybe be unique drones only?) And since Borg and Voyager can’t usually go dual-HQ, I would be on high alert for balance issues.

[AU] [SF] / [AU] [TOS] - Terran Empire

Pros: Thematic opposite of KCA, and it would have star power galore with all the mains from two series.

Cons: Mirror Starfleet does the “no cards in hand” thing and Mirror TOS does the “play at cost +X to” thing. Mechanically, they don’t mesh well. Which is a shame, because thematically it would be awesome.

That's what you told me when I pitched it years ago. You think in such three dimensional terms...

I assumed you were referring to somebody else, because that’s not the same thing as “pound sand.”

These ideas aren't tied to any specific card pools or decks, just locations from Trek I can associate with "headquarteriness" in some way. If these have been executed in 1E or in some other fashion in 2E, I'd love to hear about it.

Unimatrix Zero
Betazed ( [AQ] [Dom] )
Starbase 375 ( [DS9] exiles )
Romulus ( [Rom] + Vulcan dissidents? )
Risa ( [NA] [DS9-E] but personnel must report in pairs )

These would require 2E to get weird:
Bajoran Fire Caves ( Give us that Celestial affiliation I know you're itching to pour resources into  )
The Celestial Temple
The Q Continuum
Sisko's Creole Kitchen ( Chefs )
The Divine Treasury
Sto-vo-kor
Creepy Hellfire Alien Matrix ( [DQ] Celestials )
Guardian of Forever ( [AU] [Fut] [Pa] HQ? )

.

Not quite a new HQ but a HQ after some effort...

A bummer that Earth, Stop First Contact was designed before we had Temporal missions, Flip missions or any additional HQ...
I'd love to see a revised version:

[P] • Earth, Stop First Contact
[AQ] 30 points
(Locutus or a unique personnel you do not own), Exobiology, Security, and Strength > 34
Region: Sector 001. Temporal. When your personnel complete this mission and you command four [AQ] missions, flip this mission.
Span 2

Flip it to:

[H] • Earth, Assimilated Homeworld
[AQ]
You may play [Bor] cards and equipment at this mission
Region: Sector 001. Temporal. [Bor] cards you own gain [AU] .
Order - Remove a Temporal card in your discard pile from the game to download a Temporal card. You may do this only once per turn.
Span 2

Some Temporal fun... I am sure one can come up with a new Queen ability that fits to this :p

:cheersL:

I don't know if I favor any new headquarters mission. But with all the new [Fer] missions in Phage, I would like to see a ship like the I.K.S. Voq'leng that encourages something like Ferenginar and then all [DQ] missions and allows Ferengi to report directly aboard.
