Hey gang,

Not really so much related to trading specifically but I didnt want to crowd other boards with this.

I finally decided to go through what meager collection I have and cross referenced it with the awesome and amazing spreadsheet that flrazor created (kudos btw).

On the 2nd tab for White border cards, they are all essentially written there twice .. one for WB94 and WB95. How the heck does one know if they are 94 or 95? I've tried looking for the info but can't seem to get any definitive answer. If it helps, most of the WB cards I bought were a few months ago from a bunch of OTSD boxes.

My ultimate goal is to obtain a (1) copy of every card. Just curious to there are any actual differences between the two sets other than printing dates.

Thanks dooodes and ladies :)

Look on the right side of the image, the copyright date is parallel to the image border.

Just to answer this part of the question, there are actually a small number of cards that were changed between the alpha (94) and beta (95) printings. Most of those were just typo fixes and small lore changes. Lxaxana's name was misspelled in a couple places. T'Pan gained the skill of Mindmeld (that was left off her alpha printing), Khitomer gained a Klingon attempting icon, I think that was about it...

IIRC, the number of fixes was 11, but I couldn't tell you which cards they were.

I avoided this whole issue by eschewing WB entirely, since I think they look terrible.

I agree entirely. They look awful. But I feel if I want to have a full collection, I should at least have them. Bleh haha

The following changes were made to the Beta version of the White Border Premiere Edition released in 1995:

ARMUS - SKIN OF EVIL — changed lore from "Malevolent being formed when the inhabitants of Vagra II rid themselves of all the evil they have inside." to "A malevolent being was formed when the inhabitants of Vagra II rid themselves of all the evil they had inside."

FIRESTORM — changed "... unless thermal deflectors present. Discard dilemma." to "...unless thermal deflectors present OR Away Team escapes using emergency transporter armbands. Discard dilemma."

TSIOLKOVSKY INFECTION — added "(Not cumulative.)"

WIND DANCER — corrected misspelling of "Lwaxanna" to "Lwaxana"

DISTORTION FIELD — changed "prevents any beam down here" to "...prevents beam down/up here..."

EMERGENCY TRANSPORTER ARMBANDS — changed "Beam Personnel up or down at any time, even during a battle before the winner is determined." to "Beam your Personnel up or down at any time, except during a dilemma (unless specifically permitted). May be used during battle before the winner is determined."

THE JUGGLER — corrected misspelling of "Lwaxanna" to "Lwaxana"

EVACUATION — changed "Strength" to "STRENGTH"

INVESTIGATE TIME CONTINUUM — corrected misspelling of "Dividia" to "Devidia"

KHITOMER RESEARCH — changed from Romulan to Romulan and Klingon mission
GIUSTI — corrected misspelling of "consol" to "console"

LWAXANNA TROI — corrected misspelling of "Lwaxanna" to "Lwaxana"

MENDON — corrected misspelling of "specialist" to "specialists"

T'PAN — added MINDMELD skill

WESLEY CRUSHER — removed apostrophe from "Protege' of the Traveler." to read "Protege of the Traveler."

TORAL — changed "...bidding of half sisters, Lursa and B'Etor." to "...bidding of Duras's sisters, Lursa and B'Etor."

U.S.S. OBERTH — moved staff icon to center of art block.

Wow. That's awesome. Thanks for that Harry. Didn't have to go to that much detail but I really appreciate it.

So I have a question. In buying one booster box (30 packs)of any given expansion, what is a conservative "compete rate" for that given set .. minus the UR.

I have a bit of extra money and am gonna make an order at Hills. They have some boxes that are sort cheap.. like $8 For a booster box of mirror mirror or QC, for example. So I'm curious to know how many boxes of each to buy. Obviously there is no hard fast rule as packs are randomized. But I don't want to buy say 6 booster boxes, fill 80% of a set after 2 boxes .. then I got 4 more boxes which will mostly be doubles. I realize I can sell them but still. I have limited spate money for this hobby .. too many other one's :p.

I have little to no cards from most expansions (I most have premiere, first contact, ds9, voy. Once I collect say 85% per expansion, I can buy singles to fill the gaps.

I fully realize it's likely a next to impossible question to answer but it doesn't hurt yo try:)

Edit. Sorry for the typos. Typing in the dark, on my phone, next to sleeping beauty .. who is drooling all over her pillow. God I love her lol.

Depends on the set size.

WB Premiere had 121 Rares with no UR, so you'd need 5 boxes minimum to complete a set

AU had 40 Common, 40 Uncommon, 40 Rare (one of which - Ophidian Cane - only appears in an uncommon slot) and the Ultra Rare Future Enterprise

QC had the same setup as AU with Data's Body being the "Ultra Uncommon" and no UR.

At 30 packs per box it will only take 2 of each to complete a set minus the Future Enterprise, which is a 121:1 shot to hit in any given pack.

Mirror Mirror had 40 C, 40 U, and 50 R with a UR (First Officer Spock). Again, two boxes will likely get you a base set, but the UR is a harder thing to pull. The good news is FOS isnt that expensive to buy on line ($10-15, less on a good day) if you don't pull him.

That's a fair point. I hadn't considered set size. I was focusing on the probability.

Cool beans. I'm hoping I get some lucky pulls :P

Thanks Armus!!

I've recently bought a few of those cheap boxes from Hills, and I think it was 2 boxes of those smaller sets that allowed me to get really near a complete set (I had to then purchase a few singles to finish them off).

That's awesome. Thanks majestic.

The biggest bummer is shipping. I'm in Canada and jeebus...its nuts.

I put 6 booster boxes and the 18 card fajo in my cart. $80USD for shipping. It's 47% of the cost of the order. Alxmejcosjdjdjs

Such. Shit. I completely understand why. Size and weight. But ouch just the same.

Been a lot of years since buying from Hills, but I'm a fellow Canadian and yikes do I hear you on that one. However, the quote you got is even more terrible than usual, there should be some sort of bulk shipping rate in the shippig options. It's not intuitive, you have to change the shipping options and just go with whatever is cheapest. That being said, I've had to pay customs on a purchase from them before. Just be aware that you might have to pay something additional above and beyond the quoted price and shipping once it actually arrives!

...Wish I had some boxes to send your way to save on shipping and customs, etc, but I've never been good at keeping a sealed box. Gotta open 'em all ;)
