1E North American Continental Semi-Finalist 2024
#626297
On Saturday, September 7, at 1:00 PM, there will be a novice-friendly draft event using Jason Tang's Warp Speed Cube.

The event will be at Dreamer's Vault in Roseville. (1143 Larpenteur Avenue West) Kris assures me we won't need a reservation as long as they don't have another event running simultaneously, and it looks like there won't be.

Pre-registration is not required, but is very useful. If too many players show up for the cube (which has never happened), preference will be given to people who have not played in at least 2 sanctioned First Edition events in 2024. (EDIT: also, preference will be given to anyone coming in from out of town.)

For those who have not played this before:

Warp Speed is a quick, fun rules variant where each player has only 3 missions, 12 seed cards (in this draft), 2 normal card plays each turn, and 30 minutes to play. Experienced players and novices alike reliably have a blast with this simple, low-stress environment. See the Warp Speed Rules for details.

The draft is simple: in addition to your baseline starter cards, Jason will hand each player a random "booster pack" of 8 cards. You will pick a card from your "pack", then pass the pack to the player on your left. You'll pick up the pack just passed to you from the player on your right, then pick another card. We will draft 8 total packs this way. See the draft rules for details.

If you have any other questions, ask away! We hope to see a big turnout and some newer faces on September 7!

The one time this happened in the past, we just ended up forming draft teams who then alternated playing. I was on a team with Steve, and I think Kev was on a team with Z. Not sure how we had the rest go, but it was a riot.

In theory, if this REALLY blows up (pipe dream), we could just do two pods with two cubes, right?

It'd suck for me because I would definitely be the guy responsible for printing/cutting/sleeving the second cube, but I'd be happy to do it for the sake of a well-attended event... and it might not be the worst thing for there to be a second physical copy of the cube outside Jason's backpack of power.

If people prefer, we could do sealed deck instead of draft.

Yeah, my original plan way back was to split into 2 pods at 8 players, and then I would also have DS9 and VOY-centered cubes as well. I'm not going to have time to make those or expand my cube to 8 players like Ausgang did, but we can make do one way or another, with priority given to those who haven't played this before. And then we can schedule more drafts in the near future.

Also FYI to anyone interested, most Saturday nights during September & October, there is a ST:TNG Improv show at Huge Theater.

I'd love to come to this, but it's a family birthday this weekend, so I don't think I can. Can recommend this, however. Jason's cube is pretty well balanced and every game was good last time.

I have received reliable intelligence that, since this event was (for once) scheduled more than one full Cub Foods shift schedule in advance, Kerlingonoas (Kevin) will be there!

I am not sure I understand - out meaning cannot come or out meaning can make it? :?

Where are we at in terms of total attendance? Are we over 8 now?

EDIT - Justin is pre-reg'd, so Out I take it means he can come out. Yay! :cheersL:
With Steve soft registering, we are 8 correct? Anyone missing? One of the new folks perhaps?
