Had a funny interaction in a game recently that caused me to wonder about how distinct Augments are as a species. By it's very nature (and the nature of the word), an Augment is extra, like Human + something added. Are Augments therefore their own distinct species from humans, or would they simultaneously be considered both Human and Augment (like Spock is human and vulcan, or Troi is human and Betazoid)?

My view is that augment is not a species. Thus, if you use Holoprogram: 221B Baker Street's second function with an augment, they are still an augment even if they are a hologram (and therefore, no longer human.)

Klingons have some augments in Enterprise too. Laneth, Marab, Volok.
It isn't just a human thing.

Augments are a personal trait like admiral, thief etc. not a species.
