Morning, chooms!
Today's not only the first day of a brand new month, but it's a Friday (thank goodness!), so it's time for your Friday Question.
When Second Edition came out, some cards in the new game were "backwards-compatible" with cards from the Star Trek CCG (First Edition). A few years ago, we ended that relationship with the Other Game.
However, we've recently been looking into ways to jazz up the Storage Compartment Door side deck, and some bright fellow hit on an interesting idea: why don't we make cards from the Tribbles CCG backwards compatible? The Tribbles CCG has done a ton with the Tribble/Trouble cardtypes, and all that work is just waiting to be tapped for a new and exciting dimension of interactivity in 1E.
Of course, Tribbles CCG cards don't have BC icons, so we're going to just make the entire game backwards compatible. All Tribbles and Troubles will be stockable in the Storage Compartment Door. The Rules Committee has looked closely at the new cards, especially the Trouble cards, and sees absolutely no problems with this plan.
Most of the general rules are already worked out, and the Tribbles Conversion Document well underway. For simplicity (something the Rules Committee insisted on for this project), we are going to add all the Tribbles powers to the conversion guide as loaded rules, rather than making players read or pay attention to gametext on individual cards (since reading can be alienating to novice players).
But Design, Rules, and Playtesting are really just getting started on what all the powers should do in 1E. We've locked down a couple, which I'm sharing as examples:
Bonus - Each Tribble with this power, while in play, is worth 1 bonus point for each power of ten. So 1 Tribble (Bonus) is worth 1 point, 10 Tribbles (Bonus) is worth 2 points, 100 Tribbles (Bonus) = 3 points, and so on. (If they leave play, they are no longer worth points, do not go to your point area, and cycle back into your side deck.)
Decloak - When played or otherwise brought aboard a cloaked ship, any tribble with this power forces the ship to decloak.
But there's so many other Tribble powers! Here's your 1EFQ: What should the Tribble powers do when they're brought into First Edition?

I can't wait to see what cool 1E translations of these Tribble powers the community comes up with!
Remember: your ideas have to survive Playtesting before they see print, so there may be changes between this thread and the finished product! Thanks for your input, and the 1E Tribbles team will see you in a few months with an amazing new part of First Edition!
