I just got Mila'd last night and forfeited my game cause I was stranded. What was the dilemma combo again? And how do I avoid it?

You seed Entertaining Display --> Male's Love Interest & Plague Ship. (It only works for the combo dilemma, because original Plague Ship is [S] .) Entertaining Display downloads Mila, who downloads a Transport Inhibitor. The Inhibitor blocks all beaming, the Plague Ship can't be overcome, the whole team dies of Plague, and Mila prevents anyone from ever beaming down to the planet again.

This is most often defeated with Temporal Conduit --> Stone Knives and Bearskins to turn off the Inhibitor, but other common responses are a Disruptor Overload from your Tent (you should use Q's Tent in your draw deck!), using [DL] on an orbiting ship to get a leader with >3 STRENGTH to the planet to fight Mila, Orbital Bombardment, or a few other responses.

It's a divisive combo. Some players argue that it's too powerful and should be banned, while others point out it's a large investment that most decks don't have room for and which doesn't even reliably lock out the mission (which is why not everyone runs it). In a game where clever dilemma play is the central mechanic, big combos like this are bound to be controversial.

The easiest way to deal with the Inhibitor is still to land a ship.
Blue Alert can be seeded (or grab Establish Landing Protocols with RRD, HF, etc.) , ships with no staffing requirements can be downloaded with Spacedoor or Call for Reinforcements or Hidden Fighter.

In addition to the methods mentioned above, you can also do fun stuff like special downloading an Assassin who dls Assassination Plot to murder Mila before the Plague Ship resolves (if your opponent brings out only Mila; if you run this combo, you should always get a second female, too).

I did have a landed shuttle there, but my opponent asked if I was beaming off it which I naively said sure. How does a ship help?

The personnel inside the landed ship are not part of the mission attempt, only those outside the ship on the planet surface are, and only they are eligible to beam off for the dilemma (or not, and be killed by it). If you tried to satisfy the requirements of Plague Ship by beaming off a MEDICAL from inside the landed ship, not outside on the planet surface, you were playing it wrong.

You can simply beam from another ship in orbit to a landed ship. TI only prevents beaming to where it is present; if it's outside on the planet surface, you can still beam to the landed ship, then simply have your personnel walk out and beat up Mila. The same is true for planet-facilities, which is why seeding the Mila combo at a homeworld very risky.

So landed ships don't help you to avoid the initial wipe-out of your away team, but they give you an easy way to deal with Mila/the Transport Inhibitor after that and prevent being locked out from that mission.

-Are there any cards (like a Ref card maybe) that restrict downloads/download chains? Maybe one of those works here as well?

I thought i read a card that restricted downloads when i was reading through stuff/playing catch-up, but i can't remember what it was right now.

Computer Crash is a seedable card that simply prevents downloads for a turn. It can be circumvented by Quark's Isolinear Rods, a card you often find in decks that run the Mila combo, though.

As far as Ref cards are concerned, there is Containment Field, which puts a tax on special downloads, but it's rare that the Mila player will find themselves in a situation where they are not willing or able to pay that in order to trigger Mila's download.

There's also Dial-Up and I... Have Had... Enough... Of You, which are harder to block but also much more limited.

One of my happiest plays at worlds was against this combo, where I used Extraordinary Methods to keep a Vidiian alive, then harvest Mila.

Transporter Inhibitors stop working if there's no one with them, so I was able to beam down other people to trash them.

That shouldn't work. Plague Ship doesn't select anyone, they just die.

Extraordinary Methods
If 3 MEDICAL OR MEDICAL and Cybernetics present, plays on one of your personnel just selected to die. Death is delayed until the end of your next turn.

They're an "automatic selection". Neither player selects them, either by choice or randomly. They are all chosen automatically by the game itself.

I once Holodeck'd door save a hologram, then Hot Quark'd them for Dr Noah and captured Mila.

Not enough players download that second gal...

SELECTION (12.1)
"Execute them. I think you'll find that random and unprovoked executions will keep your entire workforce alert and motivated."
—The Intendant

Some
(Ergo, not all) cards require one or more cards to be chosen. The selection may be automatic, one player may choose, or it may be random. If the card (or rule) does not specify, the player who played or encountered the card selects. For example, on Odo's "Cousin", you choose which SCIENCE to stop. The selecting player may see the cards.

Make random selections by any mutually agreeable means; or shuffle together all eligible cards, hold them so the faces of the cards cannot be seen, and let your opponent draw a card, at random, from this group.

There are special rules for tied selections; see Ties.

There is NO choice here. They simply die. This doesn't work. @BCSWowbagger
