Hi folks! This thread will be the official update thread as we work through March Madness 2025. This year, we've asked you to nominate Decipher-era cards that don't feel quite right in this Modern Era. Your submissions are being calculated, analyzed, and seeded into this year's master bracket. Your votes will determine which card earns itself a remaster, a new version, or some new support cards - or all of the above!

Stay tuned to this thread - and the front page - for the latest update. Here's the tentative schedule:

Voting Schedule
Round of 64 - Wednesday, March 5th - Sunday, March 9th
Round of 32 - Wednesday, March 12th - Sunday, March 16th
Sweet 16 - Wednesday, March 19th - Sunday, March 23rd
Elite 8 - Wednesday, March 26th - Sunday, March 30th
Final 4 - Wednesday, April 2nd - Sunday, April 6th

I just combined all of the submission data together across all 4 questions, because I'm a data nerd. Do people find this kind of thing interesting?

Total Submissions
  • A total of 196 unique cards were submitted.
  • Of the 196 submissions, 189 were eligible submissions. (The other 7 were virtual cards and thus not eligible.)
  • 168 of the cards (88.89%) only appeared in a single bracket.
  • 23 cards (12.17%) appeared in 2 different brackets.
  • 4 cards (2.12%) appeared in 3 different brackets.
  • Just 1 card (0.53%) appeared in all 4 brackets.
Total Votes
  • 43 of the 196 cards (21.83%) received multiple votes across all of the brackets.
  • The card with the most total votes across all the brackets had 5 votes.
  • Three (3) cards had a total of 4 votes across the brackets.
  • Eight (8) cards had a total of 3 votes across the brackets.
  • Thirty-one (31) cards had a total of 2 votes across the brackets.
Card Types
A total of 16 cards types were submitted. Personnel was the card type with the most submissions (37), followed by Dilemmas (36), and then Interrupts (34).

Out of the cards with affiliations, a total of 9 different affiliations were submitted (counting different combinations of multi-affiliation personnel as different affiliations). Unsurprisingly, Federation had the most at 23.

Card Sources
Cards were submitted from a total of 26 different sources. Alternate Universe had the most with 38, followed by Premiere with 31, and then a tie at 23 between Q Continuum and Deep Space 9.

No card appears in the total bracket more than once. I had to make 1-2 swaps after the initial seed to avoid this, but yeah: no duplicates.

The polls go live tonight. As a little preview, here are 4 matches to watch, in my opinion:

(8) Edo Vessel vs. (9) File Mission Report
Edo Vessel is a weird card that could use with some updates and expansion; plus, there's good material available from its source story. FMR has had times of being really popular, but lately is far more useful in an [OS] deck than a [1E-DS9] deck. Good options on both sides.

(3) Saltah'na Clock vs. (14) Receptacle Stones
The Battle of the Artifacts. Both are niche cards that play in a space where you are messing with an opponent's team. Lots of remaster and expansion potential with both cards. Is there a bad choice here?

(5) Manheim's Dimensional Door vs (12) DNA Metamorphosis
MDD is a neat card but its effectiveness is decreased the more and more cards are added to the game, making it ripe for a refresh. DNA Metamorphosis has some difficult requirements, but putting 1 personnel in stasis after a full turn is good story but not great gameplay. Historically, #12 seeds do very well, so could this be another upset?

(7) Tomek vs. (10) Hawk
The only personnel battle in the entire Round 1 bracket. Tomek has been a weird card since the beginning, and has often been talked about for a new version or errata. Hawk played a decent supporting role in the movie, but has always been limited use in the game. Both are filled with potential improvements - but which one will you pick?

So I'll volunteer that I put up DNA Metamorphosis. Great artwork in the Fajo collection but this card is, and always has been, utterly worthless. such a disappointment from what was supposed to be the signature collection of early STCCG.

This card does NOTHING that Armus Skin of Evil doesn't do better. Just flat out kill someone instead of waiting a turn to put someone is stasis. only advantage it has is that it is [Dual]

there are a hundred worthless dilemmas in this game, but fajo Collection should have stepped the game up.
