Greetings all! Happy Good Friday, Happy Easter, Happy Wrestlemania weekend, and welcome to your latest Friday Question!

I’m writing this from a cruise ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but before I left on my travels I downloaded the latest series of Black Mirror to watch, including the sequel to the Star Trek based episode USS Callister. No spoilers, but I enjoyed it, and it did get me thinking about sequels in general…

So, 2-part question:
What is your favourite non-Trek sequel?
&
What 1E card, expansion or concept would you like to see a sequel for?

Let us know your views!

Back to the Future, Part II
It is one of those sequels that can't exist without the original and yet surpasses it. Yes the hoverboard is great, but its success owes itself to the unique mechanic that time travel allows for the story - instead of merely happening after the events of the first movie, the best parts of Back to the Future II occur concurrently with the events of the original. The question of whether Marty from the second movie will do something to disrupt the crucial events that Marty from the original is in the middle of (creating a paradox that would surely destroy the universe, or at least result in someone passing out) is great fun.
The only thing that would have improved it is if somehow they could have arranged the trilogy's events differently so that the trilogy ends where it began (with the wild west adventure in the middle).

What concept for this game deserves a sequel?

How about the introductory 2-player game? I know that Showdown: Four Lights came with decks that are supposed to work this way (and had the similar draw of seeing familiar faces that fans would love) so maybe we had the sequel already. But I would love to see an update on the concept of an introductory game that helps players pick up the complexities over several games.

The idea would be to play a couple games using the PAQ play 1, draw 1 (maybe you play a deck then switch with your opponent). Then, once you do that you "unlock" cards that raise the complexity/rate of play that go into each of the two decks in a way where the decks keeps pace with each other.

At first, that might mean each player gets a copy of Continuing Mission that downloads "Attention all hands." (But not a more specific [WC] card).

After playing another game or two, you "unlock" a group of cards that contain a Q's tent, personnel that have [DL] and the cards that they download.

At the next stage [1E-AU] cards are introduced. One deck gets a headquarters, the other a time location with free reporting. (If we are sticking with the two affiliations from the original TNG set, this would most likely mean giving the Federation deck Camp Khitomer and a Temproal Conduit, and the Klingon deck The Great Hall.)

After that, other quadrants and sites could be added, with the Klingons getting A New Earth and the Federation being given Mirror Terok Nor (A TNG deck cannot complete the mission it seeds at but they could use it for processing Ore. This would be an interesting opportunity to create a persona version for Mirror Bajor. Perhaps a mission that specifically contemplates non-M personnel completing it? Maybe based around the idea of retrieving a person from the mirror universe? Maybe a mission that is easier if you have [TE] or [KCA] infiltration icons but still do-able without them?

This is how you teach anything - repetition adding new layers of complexity each time..... And I'm also realizing its a bit like my Back to the Future II example with each new iteration on top of the prior deck, rather than as a substitute.

Best sequel? Search your feelings, you know it to be true:

The Empire Strikes Back.

1E Sequel: More Battle Station cards for more affiliations/factions. It helps me pull a deck together with play/draw guardrails that keep games sporting with plenty of Trek-sense.

I agree that there is a lot more that can be done with this film. (There are also some folks working in the Duck blind who might make for good personnel in the very restricted pool of [Fed] Battle Stations personnel.) But if more than say 3-4 new Son'a are created, or they get their own play/draw engine, they'll end up needing to be somehow limited or treated like an affiliation. Baku Planet is already a free play for them. Maybe make it so that they can't mix with personnel of other affiliations with honor or integrity >4? Perhaps they could be given a Restriction where you are unable to win the game unless you complete the Collect Particles objective? If that's the case, they'd probably need something to gain additional skills (something like They Put Creatures in Our bodies) and/or overcome Dead end.

That would be so nice. I second that. Also what Takket says. This so beautiful idea, I would like to work on it in any capacity, I am able, if CC is willing to make it reality.

How about they gain skills if all of your personnel in play are [NA] or [Dom]? That could work. Don't need to clip their wings too badly. I thought Ruofu's doctor would make a good named "You're producing far too many toxins..." (As he sucks green slime out Ruafo's neck with a hypo. ) And then there's an entire missing servant species, and the other only has one female.

Is there any other movie than The Empire Strikes Back? The only one that comes to mind is The Dark Knight, as it rewrote what people thought a comic book movie could be. It elevated superhero films to the level of serious cinema. Heath Ledger’s Joker is legendary, seamlessly blending action, drama, and philosophy.

Premiere or DS9 as a concept. Take what was great about them and more or less do a do-over of the first one, and capture all that was so great about the second. It would probably only really work with a physical product, unfortunately, but still, one can dream.

a) ST2: The Wrath of Khan

b) A follow-up to one of my favorite expansions ever: The Next Generation.

There is so much right with this one: Enabling a LOAD of cool cards we have nostalgic feelings for PLUS easy access decks for new players that still can be quite powerful. What an awesome expansion!

a) A lot of of the usual suspects have been mentioned already, so I'm going to go with something really obscure. The Joe Schmo Show 3: The Fully Bounty is one of the funniest shows I've ever watched. A ridiculous and over-the-top send-up of the reality genre.

b) Q Who? is something that hasn't been mentioned. I know, I know, [Bor] doesn't need any more help. But, as flavorful as [1E-TNG] [Bor] is, they're also kind of boring. A Best of Both Worlds set would give them the opportunity for interaction while still staying true to the look and feel of the faction. Plus, it would give the opportunity to add some much needed anti- [Bor] umph. I have some ideas about what such a set might look like if anyone's watching! :shifty:

A) The Bride of Frankenstein

B) I'd love a sequel to "Holodeck Adventures", especially if there was an overhaul of how holoprograms worked or more cards that interacted with the "Holoprogram:" card type. On the show it was impossible to have a "holodeck episode" without something going wrong, so why do they work so flawlessly as cards?

Even better would be to turn the holoprograms into some sort of mini-mission type cards, complete with dilemmas (or maybe a special holodeck dilemma side deck)? I dunno how it would work but I'm sure that we could better represent these fun and memorable episodes in some way besides being draw/play engines.
