The current glossary states that for the purposes of a matching commander both the personnel and the ship must mention each other in their lore. Was this always the case? I like to play under the original PAQ rules and thought that you just needed the ship to mention the personnel.

The glossary doesn't say that both ship and personnel need to say it. It simply says that either of them needs to both name the ship / personnel AND that they were the commanded / commander.
