Do duplicate [Q] cards discarded during a Q-flash count against the total cards to be encountered from the side deck?

I.e. If you have to face a 4 card Q-flash and you encounter 1 duplicate does that mean only 3 cards "hit." I assume this is the intention as the Q-flash card text reads "discarding duplicates" as opposed to something like "replacing duplicates." It seems obvious but it isn't expressly spelled out either. TIA!
