nickyank wrote:To celebrate the beginning of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, a hopefully annual affair, we are announcing a fantasy contest open to everyone, with a great prize available for the winner. Please see the announcement article for more details, or feel free to PM nickyank.

It's easy to play - just select one player from each of the six tournaments, and at the end of the weekend their total scores will be combined, and the player with the highest score will be crowned Commonwealth King or Queen.

However, there are a few rules:

1) You may not pick the same player twice; so you couldn't pick Thomas Schneider for both the UK 1E and 2E Nationals.

2) Each player has a cost, as laid out below. You only have 100 points to spend, so use them wisely. You do not need to spend all your points, but you cannot exceed them.

3) Any player that has not pre-registered, and is therefore not listed below, is cost 17.

4) All entries must be posted by Friday 21st November at 6 PM GMT. Any post later than that will not be counted.

5) You do not have to choose players from each tournament - however, even the lowest scoring player still earns you points, so choose carefully!

So, pick your team, and list them out in the thread below.

All players pre-registered, with their costs, are shown on the article announcement. All other players have a cost of 17.

Wait, what about the prize? Well, for one lucky winner we have a choice of two prizes, which will kindly be donated by Team London, by Royal Appointment. If you are the winner, you may choose either a Worlds Playmat OR a years Premium subscription to this site.

Now let's get this competition going!

Let's have a look at the Australian Championships first.

Australian First Edition Championship:

Ben Dillon - 21
Greg Dillon - 19
Mike Nugent - 19
Garry Dillon - 18
Jay Coad - 16
Daniel Waller - 13

Championship:Australian Second Edition

Ben Dillon - 21
Shane Brierly - 19
Jay Coad - 18
Mike Nugent - 18
Greg Dillon - 17
Garry Dillon - 16
Daniel Waller - 14

Comments:
Only Mike Nugent and Garry Dillon are currently pre-registered. Greg is the TD, and I'm uncertain of whether or not he will be playing. I expect he will be if it would cause a Bye otherwise. There are FOUR rounds, so the maximum score from this tournament is 16 points.

As you may have noticed, I got the Australian tournaments backwards - Shane Brierly will be Second Edition and Daniel Waller First Edition, if that's OK with you!

Let's look at the Canadian Championships:

Canadian First Edition Championship:

Kenneth Tufts - 21
J - 19
Kurtis Correia - 18
Michael Van Breemen - 18
Richard DeLashmit - 17
Justin Ford - 16
Roxanne Barbour - 14
Amber Van Breemen - 13

Four rounds for the First Edition tournament, giving maximum points available of 16. Ken is the obvious favourite in this one, hence his expensive cost.

Canadian Second Edition Championship

Kenneth Tufts - 22
Michael Van Breemen - 20
Amber Van Breemen - 18
J - 18
Justin Ford - 17
Richard DeLashmit - 17
Roxanne Barbour - 15

Five rounds for this Second edition tournament, which means up to 20 points are available. Although Ken has had an amazing 2E year, the Van Breemens will also be in attendance, and I'd say this was a pretty open field.

This was good, because picking a top seed really harms the ability to pick others. So here's my team, based on the idea of "can I afford it?" and the myth that picking both Van Breemens adds some bonus points.

1E:

19 Mike Nugent
15 Nick Yankovec
13 Amber Van Breemen

2E:

17 Greg Dillon
15 Niall Matthew
20 Michael Van Breemen

I call this the "I blame Iron Mike for making me change my picks because he's too expensive" list:

1E:

Oz: Mike Nugent 19
UK: Thomas Schneider 17
Canuck: Richard DeLashmit 17

2E:

Oz: Garry Dillon 16
UK: Stefan De Walf 16
Canuck: Roxanne Barbour 15

I'm like an Apple product, in that I'm not expensive, but rather you're investing in both the player and the brand.
