It's the time of year for holidays and family, I hope that everybody here has a good one. We've got such a widespread and diverse group here, so the question is, what holiday are you celebrating this season?

My apologies if I got something wrong, or forgot one of your holidays. It only lets me list 15 options... but I think I got the major ones, at least. ;-)

You'd think that if someone fit into that category they'd work Christmas Eve & Christmas Day in protest even though they still get it as a paid holiday.

Well, where i work, we are 24/7 but the holidays they ask for volunteers. If you work, you either get double time and a half or an alternate day off.

Actually we call it the 'Epitome of Capitalist Mythology'. A jolly nice boss who employs hundreds of happy child workers who get no pay and work 24/7 during the holidays and are happy about it and give their products freely to everyone around the world because it's the nice thing to do.

Least my local Comrades and I do.

Winter Opiate doesn't fit because Xmas has never been a focus of war like Opiates and Organised Religion has among other parts to the metaphor.

Nice joke though. :) :cheersR:

Of the list I choose Decemberween. Homestar is always fun.

Kwanzaa is Not an African holiday.

Ron Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 as the first African-American holiday. Karenga said his goal was to "...give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society." The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza", meaning "first fruits". The choice of Swahili, an East African language, reflects its status as a symbol of Pan-Africanism, especially in the 1960s.

Kwanzaa is a celebration that has its roots in the black nationalist movement of the 1960s, and was established as a means to help African Americans reconnect with their African cultural and historical heritage by uniting in meditation and study of "African traditions" and "common humanist principles."

Just to set the record stright.

Yes, true. But it was easier to write "African" than try to spell out all that. ;-) It's generally considered a celebration of African heritage, anyway.
