Barack Obama took the oath of office today as the 44th president of the United States.

What a proud moment in American history.

Congratulations, Mr. President.

Not very high expectations there. He'd have to try very hard to do worse.

The "sword" of this 44: "a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

His presidency will live or die by it.

Presidential trivia.

Obama is the 44th president. How many different presidents have there been?

Nice trick question jared. 44. Each president is only counted once no matter how many terms they serve....even if its three.

Or four... even if he didn't live to make it through all of the fourth one.

Actually it's only 43. Each president is only counted once no matter how many CONSECUTIVE terms they serve. In the case of Grover Cleveland he served two non-consecutive terms, and so he was counted as both the 22nd and 24th presidents.

The answer is not entirely accurate.

The Question is: "How many different presidents have there been?"

This would include those Vice-Presidents who briefly held the office of President during times when the elected president was unable to carry out the duties of the office.

I have not had a chance to research this, but I know of one such instance where that VP did not go on to be elected President in a later term.

Other interesting questions:

How many times in U.S. history have we had a president who, if they died, would leave nobody in charge?

Who was the youngest president elected?

Who was the youngest president?

Who was the only president not elected?

I'm not sure that this has ever happened, their have been cases where we did not have a VP after the president dies, but their was always someone (Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, or Secretary of State) who was next in line.
Who was the youngest president elected?
JFK
Who was the youngest president?
T. Roosevelt (became president after McKinley was assassinated.)
Who was the only president not elected?
G. Ford (apointed to VP after S. Agnew resigned, became president after Nixon resigned)

Am I right?
