When my wife runs the doggies most of the time she is accompanied by a pack of ravens looking for dog yummies. And a typical german conversation on higher level looks like this:
Me: How was your walk?
Wife: Ich habe meine Vögelfreunde getroffen
Me: What the f..are you talking about?
What she "says" - " I met my raven friends" but it means " I met my f..buddies" as well!
Correct is: Ich habe meine Vogelfreunde getroffen - so "o" and "ö" makes the point.
And there is a big difference when I say to my wife:
Du hast den schönsten Hintern weit und breit - und
Du hast den schönsten Hintern, weit und breit
Punctuation marks kill relationships
"Rum machen" and "rum machen" is not the same.
When you master german on this level proceed with dutch - the best language ever -
where the film quote " I m groot" means " I m dutch"

So I started up Duolingo myself since the more fluent I am in Spanish, the better for me professionally.
