I’ve escorted 10 students to Huntsville, AL this weekend for a NASA competition. They’ve built a rover. Watch them run the obstacle course sometime between now and 3:00 pm CDT.

That is so awesome! It took me some effort to take my eyes off the holy trinity in the back (SRBs, External Tank, and Orbiter) about which I presented a talk(?) in my class when I was a kid. And many many models of.
But the rover looks cool! What do you teach, anyway? And how did the competition go?
Man, I would love even to fail miserably in any NASA competition.

I teach physics at a 2-year college near Chicago. I sponsor the engineering club, which these students belong to.

There were some problems with both the front and rear differential, which led them to push the rover through the whole course. They had fun, learned a lot and want to come back next year.
