Haha! Great fun. What AU are you referring to? Is it "the" [1E-AU] , or is it some concept that has passed high over the stone I live under?
Hey, too bad you don't post mroe often, seeing as you're a long-time member. Too few women here. I feel that a mixed public always makes for a more dynamic atmosphere (and that should read, positively dynamic!), more different subjects and aspects of life (and cards) discussed... So that's why I miss female input here.
(
The only thing I'd, personnaly, not desire is an explosive expansion here, of the "we're all parents, right!?" aspect to some parts of my own society -- but that's personal. I did see some mild, and role-surpassing instances of that here -- proud fathers who banded together. Nothing wrong with that -- just that there's this tendency here, IRL, to treat childless people -- who help make the world less crowded and better for all children, too! -- as low-life pariahs in certain situations. Sometimes, those condescending parents are gender-polarizing themselves, in that they are often women -- but certainly not always.

Noted, for sure. (But why not?)

I've been pondering this topic for months, and had it growing as a draft for a few weeks now -- meaning I've been on the look-out for a sharing-place for these stories for a long time. BUT of course, I could have easily overlooked it, since I hardly can keep up with all activity here. Still... if many people answered, it'd be hard to miss...

Could it have been on another platform...? Discord, somebody's blog, ...?
Or could it be before I started reading/posting (end of last year)?

I could have sworn I answered this question before. Glad to know I'm not crazy (well, not MORE crazy anyway.... :shifty: :P )
It's fairly recent -- I DID overlook it!! :o :? :( Not my intention to steal.
Should somebody merge these topics?
Thanks for finding out though -- more stories to read! :cheersL:

My handle just sounds like random syllables added to my first name (Fritz), perhaps some people think that this is my full name. No such.

Two things you need to understand for the story of my handle to make sense:

1) In university we had an unpleasant professor by the name of Kritzinger. He was emeritus and came into town to only to teach one course to undergrads and one course to honours students, once a year. Everyone hated the undergrad course (which was compulsory), but the postgrad course was optional and only one student was foolish enough to take it. This was disappointing for this professor who would have preferred it if no-one took the course and he didn't have to do any work. It was not a fun experience for that one student.

2) As part of this honours course, there was a lot of computer gaming (DotA mostly). The best part of the game was how everyone chose a name to play under that was topical. For example, one day we found out that a classmate had the unusual middle name "Ponan" so of course someone else joined the game as "Ponan the Barbarian".

The simple end to this story is that on the day of the exam for that one unfortunate soul in the unpleasant professor's course, my topical gaming name of choice was: Fritzinger.

Mine was the name of a character i played in Furcadia circa 2002. (Don't google it. Rule 42.)

Just became my default because 'Squirrel of God' (the nickname of my Malkavian Character crom the same time period) is already taken suprisingly often across the internet.

My name is Tim. The username "Tim" was already taken so "Timo" is a second choice I go to.

I never go by "Timo" IRL. I know it's a form of the name used in Europe so people sometime read it as my name but I prefer just Tim.

I've noticed the original "Tim" user hasn't been active since they signed up over a decade ago.... they wouldn't miss it if I where able to take it.

Well, you could ask e.g. Maelwys what he thinks of that. If it's certain to be a bot, or can be traced / proven as really being inactive (but how could you prove that? :shifty: ), then maybe he'd change the name for you...? But that may not be ethically justifiable, OTOH...
And maybe you're used to Timo, and away?

And aside from or being a fairly common name here (And in Finland, at least): yes, I often use members' handles i.s.o. their real names. If you dislike that in your case, I'll try to remember. Remind me of need be!

Boffo97 can change usernames. Any phpBB admin can. Would have to change the original Tim to something else first (presumably, I don't think username is actually unique but should).

Darn it, Timo! I'm a mod, not an admin!

;)

Which is to say that no I cannot change user names. Maelwys changed mine.

Fair enough.

Actually, trying to look him up now the user doesn't exist. I thought I did find him a few years ago, ... perhaps we cleaned out chronically inactive users at some point. I'll ask Maelwys.

It can be done - do people want that or would it cause confusion?

Mine dates back to a 2003 or 2004 handle on a Transformers board. It got updated around 2007 for the Iron Man movie coming out. I've pretty much stuck with ever since to avoid confusion (mostly my own).

Back when I started on the internet [1994 - I was 18] I wanted a cool nickname, so being the Japanese fan I was and reading Shi at the time I when in retrospect bad syntax became Daimyo Shi [Lord Death]. It has been my primary Internet ID ever since, there remains a 90% any google search of Daimyo Shi will be me.
