This is exciting!

SpaceX is planning a Saturday, October 7 launch of an Airbus-built communications satellite from pad 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The approximately 11,500-pound (5,200-kilogram) spacecraft will blast off aboard a reused Falcon 9 first stage during a two-hour launch window opening at 6:53 p.m. EDT (2253 GMT).

Also, a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket will launch a classified spacecraft payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office. The launch is schedule for Thursday, October 5th between 3:30-5:00 a.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (which is just south of Kennedy Space Center).

Launches can usually be seen from Orlando for anyone who can't make the 30-40 minute drive to the coast.

That's the problem with launches - they're often delayed...

This is something that I've wanted to see since I was a child.

Is there any way of getting to the coast early Thursday morning?

After living in Florida all these years, I've learned that there is usually a good chance any given rocket won't launch on schedule. It could even end up being cancelled that day. For what it's worth, if the weather is clear, you can actually see the launce from Orlando. If it's after dark, so much more so.

Have to check Wednesday night to see if everything is still a go - but it is a possibility...

I would totally get in on this. I've dabbled in rocket science, after all. :shifty:

There is also another launch scheduled for Thursday morning - EARLY. Weather permitting, and you are up, you should be able to see it if you look east and aren't blocked by anything close that is tall.

Date: Thursday, Oct. 5
Vehicle: Atlas V
Mission: National Reconnaissance Office NROL-52 satellite
Launch Site: Space Launch Complex 41, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
Launch Window: 3:30 a.m. to 5 a.m.
