I am please to announce that the World Championships for 2022 will be held in Orlando, Florida the weekend of October 6th through 9th. Events will start on Thursday with the WCT qualifiers, followed by First Edition Day 1, Second Edition Day 1, First Edition Day 2, and Second Edition Day 2. Events will be getting entered into the system over the next couple of days, and I will get a front page article (with AI spoilers) up this weekend. If you are willing to help run events, either the main events or side events, please reach out to a member of the OP team to discuss your availability.

Stay tuned for additional details, and thank you all in advance for your patience.

All of the main events for the three games have been input into the tournament system. If you will be attending, please pre-register. Also, please note the times might be subject to change depending on store hours. I will confirm them as the dates get closer. Thanks.

London had the (only?) bid for 2022 Worlds but asked to defer to 2023 out of concern for COVID (re-)emerging as a barrier to international travel.

At least that's my understanding of what happened.

COVID, World War 3 starting, ya know... all these minor inconveniences. :?

I was looking at the area to see what hotels were available and I'm having trouble finding any within walking distance. I was hoping to avoid renting a car but that may be cheaper than uber/lift each day.

For those more familiar with the area, do you have any recommendations for lodging?

I will be driving down, I haven't looked at lodging yet, but will likely want to share and can give rides

There are no hotels near Eric’s store (Campus Cards and Games 2) at least within walking distance where the 2022 championships will be held (there were hotels near his other store where the 2017 events were held, but he closed it when the landlord wanted to triple rent).

Due East of the CCG2 store, about 5.6 miles away, are several hotels with restaurants/bars right there that are open late at night. This is where a number of us stayed in 2017, including Maggie and the German contingent.

I am probably going to stay again at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Orlando East/UCF Area. As I wrote, I stayed there in 2017 and again last year for Continentals.

The good news is there is no UCF football game the weekend of Worlds so the hotel room prices shouldn’t be outrageous (family weekend is the weekend before).

Great info, thanks. I'm staying wherever the Germans / Euros are staying because that will be where the FUN is. :cheersL:

I highly recommend the Fairfield. It’s in walking distance of several excellent restaurants and bars. I was planning to stay there as well.

Depending on if the spouse and spawn come along, I may need a ride to the store, or would split an Uber.
