quick question ...
A download in place of a card draw can go to hand, that's explicitely mentioned in the glossary.

However, is it also possible to take a card into hand instead of into play when it is a 'in place of your normal card play' download?

No. The only case where you can do a download to hand (without specific gametext enabling it) is when it's in place of a card draw.

Someone explained to me why that is a little while ago, and I've already forgotten. Something to do with the Borg.

Oh, right, it's because Borg Queen (First Contact) downloads A Change of Plans and Fifteen of Seventeen downloads Adapt interrupts -- both of which are less useful, or even useless, if those downloads must go to the table.

Good candidate for unloading a rule onto a card.
