I'm looking to build a new TNG deck, so I'm soliciting suggestions about themes. The deck should be Fed, Kli, or Rom. It doesn't have to be a great deck, but it shouldn't be obviously terrible. I know TNG isn't so much in vogue now, but this is kind of for instructional purposes. With that in mind, I don't want to get TOO crazy.

Examples of themes I've considered:
-Romulan using War Council for draws. (Not sure WC is a good draw engine, though.)
-Romulan with Holodeck Door and [Bar] guys. First download gets Ambassador Tomalak, who gets the Treaty so the others can join in. (Decent idea but less relevant now that QI is banned.)

TNG decks I've played already:
-Federation Solver built around Make It So (This worked well for me; I just want to try something different.)
-Romulan Capture with Lonzak. (This had potential but needs a better way to monetize captives.)

If it's instructional, why not play it straight? TNG doesn't have to do anything fancy to be playable in OTF. (They do have to get fancy to win high-level events, but that's true of everyone in a healthy game.) This deck might need a coat of fresh paint, but still seems fundamentally solid to me.

If you want to be a bit more interesting than that, I think there's a lot of as-yet untapped fun in the Illegitimate Leader world, be it the Diplomatic Conference route or the Nexus / Redirect Energy Ribbon route.

War Council is a sucky draw engine. Much touchier than it looks. Skip it.

True, I could just go straight (at first). Maybe I just do Finest Crew with all the bridge crew?

I actually want to showcase the deckbuilding process, so that's why I'm searching for a deck that I've never built before, but also want to use a faction that I'm familiar with (i.e. not NA or Ferengi).

Illegitimate Diplomatic Conference is thereby disqualified on the grounds that I already have built such a deck (in Lackey). I might have played it at a tournament except that 1) Dip Conference is too obvious of a Dead End target and 2) Dip Conference got unusually popular in our playgroup last year.

I forgot to download Coming of Age into my brain until now, so the Barash idea might still be worth pursuing with Investigate Energy Readings.

How about a simple remake of the movie Generations in 1E format? It is easy enough to teach deck building and it still provides enough complexity to show what 1E is all about with cards like Reunite Legends for the Enterprise-B; The Nexus and Dr. Soran; Finest Crew in the Fleet; Missions like Conduct Stellar Research and Avert Solar Implosion

I can think of a few directions for this:
  1. Story Mode Feds: straightforward Fed Solver with TNG bridge crew, Kirk. Maybe Soran, but instead of blowing up a planet we just give Soran a shuttlecraft.
  2. Same as above, except our Feds try to Redirect Energy Ribbon or at least try some Trilithium Weapon shenanigans.
  3. Story Mode Klingons: Illegitimate Leader with Redirect Energy Ribbon.
  4. TNG / [CF] Crossover, reporting the Generations [CF] people to Camp Khitomer
Which do you like best?

I have a couple public designs:

[1E-TNG] [Fed]
[1E-TNG] [Kli]
[1E-TNG] [Rom]
[1E-TNG] [NA]

If you like them, or don't like them or just have comments, I am open to any.

Ive played around with a TNG Fed deck simply using 6 seed cards and 24 dilemmas. Also all the cards should be TNG property logo if youre going for thematics. You could easily use all the Bridge Crew and all the missions can be from TNG episodes. Each of your dilemma piles can also be themed, with things like Armus, Royal Casino, & Gender themes.

TNG Klingons have always felt good to me with the freedom they offer, instead of there being an array of cards grudgingly unlocking things you can do, or there just being extra stuff to track. They can focus on solving, or battling, or mix things up. Their missions and the relatively straightforward skills they ask for don't get in the way of deck designs. They can also easily nab points with a Yell or a Rite of Succession to keep options open.

I'm personally fascinated with the future ships--for TNG Klingons, the I.K.C. Fek'lhr and the I.K.C. Chang. Haven't come up with much in particular for them (aside from Maximum Firepower that calls them straight out), but damn do they look cool.
