I see and hear many new people being enthusiastic about the Borg. (Here, and recruiting in my own area.)
Immediately banning "beginner Borg" (yeah! I know! I know!) from what is ultimately meant as a beginner's card pool might leave new or returning players feeling 'cheated' out of an opportunity. (Bad choice of words. Disappointed?)

You lot may immediately build winning decks out of TNG Borg. I didn't (and I'm not even exactly a beginner).

And after deck built, you also have to PLAY them correctly AND fast.

The target audience will probably have a much more balanced experience.

Don't ban [Bor] from the pool. (But if you really want less difficult playtest data/experience, consider ONLY dropping them from the event. :P )

(
As I may still drop from this event, and wouldn't prolly have played big B anyway, this really is a non-tactical argument from me.
)

Since this is a "playtesting" event, leaving Borg in and trying to build decks to beat them might be worth doing. You could even randomly assign about half of the participants to play Borg and the other half to try to counter Borg (or all for that matter, including the mirror match).

I get it if they need to be removed but I also think this is a good opportunity to do more research if we think that is needed.

I'm curious as to what you think of my comment. Taking the "it must be fun"-sentiment out of the (non-sanctioned!) testing event (I mean, it's supposed to bring constructive data for a card pool, not "be fun for everybody", right?), is there any merit in what I say?
That newcomers should be free to choose from a whole, simple card pool, that includes an affiliation That Should Not Be For Them, but is fascinating to many, and thus might draw them in?

I think any card that can be downloaded by a TNG/AKC (or references the card) card should be available for the tournament even if it's on the ban list.

Also don't ban the Borg. Maybe that'll give some fuel for the data crunchers to work on about what should be done for the Borg that can bypass almost every dilemma out there.

I don't think I would be in favor of this, per se. The goal of the pool is simplicity. Allowing SDs outside the pool would break up that simplicity. That being said, they would certainly make good targets for future AI promos. I just did a quick search of personnel and ships with the TNG or Generations logos and found the following cards [DL] a card that is not in the pool:

Goran [DL] Cardassian Disruptor
Jorat Dal [DL] Counterintelligence
Dexter Remmick [DL] Inspection
Edward Jellico [DL] Treaty: Federation/Cardassian
Jean Hajar [DL] Space Boomer
Jean-Luc and Beverly [DL] Hypospray
Bractor [DL] Commandeer Ship (add AKC!!!)
Lurin [DL] Forced-Labor Camp
Morta [DL] Prepare Assault Teams
Quark (The Next Generation) [DL] Any PADD (of which the Ferengi PADD is DS9 logo, but now I want him to get the Trilithium Weapon Control PADD)
K'mpec (Chain of Command) [DL] HQ: Secure Homeworld Not suuuper important, because there's only one HQ with TNG property logo
K'Temoc [DL] Engage Cloak
Kahless (The Next Generation) [DL] Warrior's Birthright
William T. Riker (The Next Generation) [DL] Emergency Transport Unit
Livingston [DL] Ready Room Door
Eli Hollander [DL] Prisoner Exchange
Will Riker [DL] Dropping In
Admiral Mendak [DL] Any [Sch] (All have Enterprise logo)
Agyer [DL] Space Boomer
Proconsul Neral [DL] Live Long and Prosper AND The Art of Diplomacy
Tharket [DL] Prisoner Escort

So, 21 cards altogether. If this pool gets traction, I would suggest that this would be a nice Homefront-style set.

Is, or isn't, Generations Property Logo a part of the future pool? I thought you could already have it...? (At least for this event.)

Yes, that's why I said I wanted him to grab it.

Ah, okay. So the only counted card here is the DS9 [1E-Fer] PADD. (I didn't add them all up. )

Now I did! [Down] (Just because it can be done.)

  22. Tharket [DL] Prisoner Escort
Oh. Seems something went wrong somewhere? 21, 22... same difference.

Actually, I think the damage is rather limited. Not two dozen cards, in the whole pool...
I thought the idea of reissuing them as promos was quite nice.

Oh, yeah, AKC! Given the property (closely connected to TNG), I'd say yes -- do include them.
Not sure if they can/will be an NPE risk (which was posited earlier?). Once you know of Kavok, it's easy to evade his special skill, innit?
And Bij is just horrible in "real OP", but in a beginners' match, I'd think there are many more turns, so not that bad?
