What are your favorite 5 cards in the game? It is a simple question but just wanted to see if people think the same.

My 5 are below in order

1. Spires of Romulas
2. Traveler (event)
3. Surprise party
4. Kivas fago collector
5. Vektor

So what are your top 5?

How did you not list any dilemmas? The cards you use constantly don't focus on your setup - that changes game by game as you try out different affiliations. It's the ways you mess up your opponent that you use more frequently! Those become your favourites over time.

Friendly Fire
Cytherians
Quantum Leap
Denevan Neural Parasites
Rules of Obedience

We have different playstyles. Every deck has different dilemmas. I use kivas fago collector, traveler and surprise party in every deck. Vektor is in at half my decks. She is awesome. Spires of Romulas gives any deck help with those missing skills.

Cytherians is great in multiple player even more than 2 players. Best old school combo was Cytherians and unerrata temporal rift. You can lock up your opponent forever. Well at least that one ship.

Just some that I simply enjoy:

Cytherians - The design on this is amazing. There's the basic question of whether to try nabbing the points for yourself and of how to safeguard the ship, or whether to spring it on your opponents with a guaranteed hit and of how to stop them from getting the points. It sets so many things in motion, and not just the ship.

Kivas Fajo - Collector - It draws cards. Quite simple, but it feels good to get more resources into hand.

Continuing Mission - I guess one downside of this card, for me, is that it tends to knock a slot out of these lists by default.

Defend Homeworld - A springboard for deck designs. It's nice to get some kind of relatively open pick in a starting personnel if one so desires.

U.S.S. Enterprise - It's the Federation flagship! Playable, too. Throughout the twists and turns of the game, at least that card can still be a good choice for a TNG Fed deck (I'm sure in some alternate reality, the choice card became the Combat Vessel or something).

Since cards are only as good as the synergy you play them with -- meaning I'd have room for just 1 or 2 mechanics here (like Assign Support Personnel + Dominion War Efforts + Defend Homeworld + Deyos; or the even ore elaborate one where you use Spacedoor to get your Karemman boat staffed with its commander which you DL to it with Ready Room Door by Make It So, via the Vorta Google Glasses, and such) -- I'll go for effect first, and sentimental value second.

The initial thought that came to me with this topic (as I'm sure other have thought of) was:
  1. One
  2. Second
  3. Third Of Five
  4. Four Of Nine
  5. Fifth
It's no secret I love my :borg: and I love having those special skills in my deck. And as a teenager, I was really impressed with the episode, I, borg.

Now, 5 cards that I like (for various reasons and barely in any order):
  • Third Of Five -- the episode got to me, when I saw it as a teenager, and I liked this character. A print-out of the card has adorned my rules binder for ages. It inspired me to really start trying to play Borg (which I have far from mastered; but it's fun).
  • U.S.S. Defiant -- my then-play group had been hoping for and designing this card for years; the eventual real thing was better than we imagined.
  • Ferengi Outpost -- I really like its lore, colour scheme and overall visual appeal.
  • Lure Of The Nexus -- when young, my favourite animal was the wolf, and I was thrilled that there was a card that boasted it; as an adult, I'm happy that my current fave beast is also represented. (No; although he's a beast, too, I don't mean Picard.)
  • U.S.S. Oberth -- my very first card, nice photo, esthetically pleasing ship, science vessel.

I tried not to copy anything from this topic, but the cards I named there, go too.

Ah! So you also play multi-player games.

This means you might have custom rules for your MP endaevours. (For you must have a custom way, at least, of dealing with e.g. spaceline-traveling dilemmas? And how to choose the spaceline's end for this particular dilemma?)
Various people have expressed interest (Tim, Wowbagger and myself) in reading others' rules for MP games.

Could you please share your rules and rulings, spaceline set-up, and any other info in this dedicated topic?

It's OK if its only a dump from your own notes -- I did just that. Post Assimilate first, sort 'em out later. 8) :borg:

Thanks! :)

Why are they weird? (Have you seen mine!? :P ) And would you like to explain why you like them? I'm sure I can learn from it, and/or get to know something about you. :) But only if you want to, of course.

Kivas Fajo Collector
Wormhole
Female Love Interest/Garbage Scow
Q's Tent
Prefix Code Transmission

Reasons
Kivas Fajo - Collector

From the first set onward this was an amazing draw engine. It was included in nearly every deck I played.

Wormhole(pre-errata)

This card made my battle decks possible. Load all in one ship and just use a wormhole or two and I'm everywhere. I can catch the fastest mission solvers and there was no where you could hide. Different quadrant? no problem. Different time line? Sure, I'll meet you there!

Female's Love Interest & Garbage Scow

This card was another critical card in my deck building. For my battle decks it stopped you from quickly solving missions and allowed me to swoop in and blow your stuff up, if I already hadn't. In speed solvers it stalled you just long enough for me to solve my stuff and win. (but this was mostly for battle decks)

Q's Tent

This card single handily allowed you to account for so many different decks out there. Got a card that you don't want to clog your deck? Q's Tent. Need a certain tech card to stop a artifact or deck? Q's Tent. Need a place to put Dixon Hill so you can solve the dumbest missions out there? Q's Tent.

Prefix Code Transmission

Now I'll admit this card was only in my Hirogen battle deck for 1 main reason, to blow up other Hirogen ships. At the time Hirogen was a widely played affiliation and I had trouble targeting their ships. But with 2 Olarra's and my carrier ship the Kazon Warship (plus Prefix Code Transmission) I would be able to target anything they had to offer.

Plus this card allowed me to do something I'll remember forever. It allowed me, on the first turn of the game, to blow up Mike Harrington's Husnock Outpost in 1 shot.

Well, Kander didn't -- he used the Prefix Code. No. Wait. 21 weapons (also a lot on 1st turn!) would still mean it only damaged the outpost. You're right, Rox. So, either 41 weapons or, say, Distortion of space/time continuum?

Nice explanations, in all. Actually, not at all weird, though!

Chuck Testa? Nope, Q's Tent.

Post Re: What are your favorite 5 cards in the game?
You're really gonna tax my memory on this one. Keep in mind this happened in 2002 at the World Championships. Some of the cards have changed since then.

Basically it's this: Kazon Warship plus 2 Olarra's, Bynars Weapon Enhancement, Captains log, and using my battle bridge I drew Maximum Firepower. That was enough to direct hit the outpost.

Kazon Warship - 11
Olarra - 9
Olarra - 9
Bynars - 6
Captain's Log - 3
Maximum Firepower - 6

Total = 44 attack

How did I staff all that? Well it's not that much really. At the time I could use defend homeworld and assign mission specialists to staff the Kazon Warship. I use Assign Support Personal and some other downloads, which for the life of me I can't remember, to staff everything else. All I had to do then was load both ships aboard the Kazon Warship and use my wormholes to travel to his Outpost.

Another fun fact of that game. I used his DS9 to play Dixon Hill (with my docking pylons), to solve Deliver Supplies and steal his Horga'hn.

4 people using the usual suspects (Defend HW, AMS, ASP); I can imagine you were able to scrounge a 5th.
So I'd be even more curious as to how you drew/played all that on your first turn... But you said I taxed your memory already, so...
