Welcome to today's First Edition Friday Question, where I'm going to ask you a question about 1E... on Friday. Not the most creatively named segment, but it works. One of these days, this deadpan intro won't be funny to me, but that day is not today! And hey, at least you know what's going to happen.

Two weeks ago, I asked about characteristics in the game that need some love, and last week I wanted to know which card you thought deserved an alternate image. Today, we're going to do something really different and ask you what you think about a card in development.

WARNING: This thread will contain spoilers for a card that may appear in an upcoming expansion. If you aren't interested in that, please don't read on. The actual card is hidden, but might not be in the replies. Don't worry, we'll be back next week with a new, spoiler-free question.

Here's the card as it stands right now:

[Int] Interrupt {ST3: TSfS}
I HAD HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!
Filled with rage following the death of his son, Admiral Kirk angrily ended Kruge's efforts to acquire the secret of Genesis.
Once per game per persona, plays on any Benefactor OR a personnel that just initiated a [DL] (prevents [DL]; "unused" from next turn). That personnel loses all [SD] until end of turn.

What do you think of this card?

Recently, there's been an uptick in talk about public playtesting, showing behind the scenes cards to the public, and getting more feedback. I got to thinking about today's question, and thought it might be a good opportunity to test out doing just that. So what you can see above, if you click into the spoiler, is an interrupt that's currently in a design file. It's being playtested, but we thought we could share it with you and let you discuss it. You can pick it apart, talk about how you'll use it (or why you wouldn't), theorycraft, and more.

This is your chance to see a card in development and give feedback on it, and our chance to see how something like that will go on the small scale. So what do you think of [SPOILER] above?

Have a great weekend! We're looking forward to seeing your discussions on this card. And if you want to playtest it, go ahead - let us know about that!

I like it. [DL]s need some disruption IMHO.
However I'm worried that it will fall victim to the same issues that plague so many [Int] now: drawing into it at the right time vs it disrupting draw/play tempo. Ironically my first thought was: I hope someone [DL]s this card....
I hope the skill wipe pushes over the threshold.

Maybe this could be a "cycle" of cards and the next one, instead of targeting [DL]s, targets "Opponent's personnel who just nullified a dilemma"?

Thoughts:
The wording is a little clunky. It feels like a Computer Crash for a specific [DL] , which is a good concept. If that's the case, I'd reword to:
Once per game per persona, plays on any Benefactor OR a personnel that just initiated a [DL] (prevents [DL] for remainder of turn; [DL] is not used). That personnel loses all [SD] until end of turn.

That cleans up the [DL] text, but I think the Benefactor text is underpowered. It would be better if it could play as a response to a Temporal Agent using a Benefactor's gained skills, especially during a mission attempt. Something like this:
Once per game, plays on a Benefactor when a Temporal Agent is about to use a skill gained from Benefactor. Suspends all text on Temporal Benefactor until end of turn.
.

The problem is that's too much text for a single [Int] .

So if there's room, maybe make TWO [Int] cards that both do really strong things, or maybe make an [Inc] that can perform either function at interrupt (or suspends play) speed.

Overall, a nice first pass and I definitely see potential here.

Thanks for engaging the community like this Charlie.

So the first part isn't a valid response to anything. It's just something you have to play in advance of what you suspect is about to happen. Which... is fine, I guess. But it'd be better if it incorporated a response aspect, like the latter part.

This card is the stupidest thing I have ever designed. Why? It’s main victim is me. I use bugouts all the time. This card is going to bite me on the arse. Hard.

You know what that makes you?

A good designer.

You SHOULD force yourself out of your comfort zone. It's good for you. Keeps your deckbuilding brain muscles from atrophy.

I like that this can nullify any Mission Specialist after it has been declared as part of the mission solve. By cycling these, you could completely throw a Assign Mission Specialist deck off it's game.

[Int] Interrupt {ST3: TSfS}

Once per game per persona, plays on any Benefactor OR a personnel that just initiated a [DL] (prevents [DL]; "unused" from next turn). That personnel loses all [SD] until end of turn.

So:

1) its a free play since its an interrupt ... A+

2) this certainly does put a little kink in the armour of [DL]-happy cards. Sure, you can use them, but at your own risk ... A+

3) I agree with Armus. It feels a bit off to me. I would remove the first part before the "or" and just leave it with the 2nd part ...

4) If that advice is heeded, perhaps a separate card like "The Value of Time" .. since it's dealing with Benefactors? Then use the first part of the text on this new card and have it do something similar but different? So say Confucius ;)

All that said, I really like the spirit behind the card. Fantastic.

Interesting and works with mess with opponents deck.

I honestly wish it cancelled the [DL] completely. It would make players think about there [DL] instead of them being safe in the game. I don't know if I will stock it in alot of decks over other cards as it stands right now.

I don't think it will bite you in the arse so much as kick you in the face.
