Welcome to today's First Edition Friday Question, where you get a chance to answer questions that will help shape the future of First Edition. If you'd like to catch up on previous entries, here's a list of all of my previous Friday Questions:

There are a lot of cards that have either fallen out of favor, or never really took off in the first place. Especially in a game that's a quarter-century old like First Edition, there are going to be old favorites that have been "lost" in the modern era. I want to know which of those cards are important to you, and that you'd like to see given a new coat of paint.

Which old, unused 1E cards deserve some love?

Love can come in a lot of forms, and all of them are valid. For example, a good way to make a card that's a little too expensive a bit more playable is by making a personnel that can [DL] the card. Design uses this trick a lot. Or perhaps an old card gets a new lease on life when a new card lets it play for free. Or maybe we make a new mechanic that relies on some old cards to work, and that's how we bring these favorites back to life. All of that and more are valid, but before we can do that, we need to know which First Edition cards you want to see given love.

If you celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday, I hope you're recovering from all of that food. I enjoyed a nice meal with Andrea Heywood-Lobban (Kamala) and her family, then went to see Frozen II. I enjoyed both. And if you're venturing out this weekend for Black Friday or Small Business Saturday, enjoy yourself and be safe.

in a very broad sense, because the game has turned into a 7-8 turn affair with most of the mission solving happening late in that timeframe, artifacts have become essentially worthless.

Refer to this thread:

As for specific cards, I love anything that breathes new life into binder fodder. Assign Mission Specialists is one of the best cards ever made. It turned dozens of cards never used into staples for many decks.

I think the Q-Flash could use some love. Looking at the deck lists it doesn't get included often, and when it is, the decks do terrible. First and foremost the "limit of two" OTF rule needed to exempt the Q-Flash. if you expend an extra seed slot to seed this doorway you shouldn't be limited to two of these. I think that, even more than new cards, would really help this side deck become more tournament worthy.

Have to admit wondering if large swaths of Dilemmas could be AMS'ed into relevance. How to tap into them elegantly seems a tough challenge to solve.

The first thing that came to mind here is I haven’t seen a Visit Cochrane Memorial deck in ages. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

On a general sort of note, I really enjoy dilemmas like I’m Not Going to Fight You or the Shades of Gray cards that boost old and busted dilemmas.

This is a great take. Unique ships should matter, but unless they're downloadable, they really don't.

Spacedoor and Call for Reinforcements have made ❖ ships very accessible, which is good for the game, but something that made Unique ships worth playing would ALSO be good for the game IMO.

How about an AMS for ships?

"Assemble your fleet"

Seeds on table. You may download to your compatible outpost up to two ships (each must have total attributes less than 21). Once per game, may discard to score points (5) when the crew of a ship your downloaded with this objective completes a space mission.

This might get some of the "better equipped" uniques out?

I've waited seven years for a sequel to Shades of Gray, one of the neatest little card cycles ever. Let Me Help scratched the itch quite a bit, but I'm still dreaming of the day Skullduggery, Angry Mob, and Garanian Bolites are playable again.

There's still dozens and dozens of old-timey dilemmas that need a boost to get back into the game, and, with the learning we have from the original SoG cycle, I think we could do some really great SoG cards today.

I would love something that makes most of the premiere ships worth using. Both the uniques above as well as all the little universal ships. There would have to be a drawback so that we didn't bring back armadas: but I really want a reason to use ❖ Excelsiors and little oberths...

Totally agree to give these old federation ships some love.

e.g. Once per game may report a federation ship for free that you havn´t played for free yet and does not have [DL] or attributes >22, nor has no staffing icons.

(runabouts already have hidden fighter and landing capacity)

Late to the party, but I have to think about these questions a bit, sometimes.
Old ships is a good second for me. How about [SD] Youth mission specialists and other "worthless" personnel? I make happy use of them in my "Impulse Speed" teaching decks, but it might be fun seeing them around more. Guisti, Larson, Tarses, ...

I was always afraid that she'd gotten quite some loving already... :? :P
I absolutely love Barclay, and it is shown very diplomatic and family friendly  , but that's not what holodeck are actually used for. Think of it. Internet on steroids. So, I can't help but see GOE as a sort of metaphor... :( :twocents:

Why are we limiting this to Federation ships?

The IKC Buruk has NEVER gotten any love. Ditto the Hegh'ta, despite it being Kurn's ship.

And who doesn't love the Pi? Amirite?
