Hello folks, and welcome back to this week's Friday question. I hope that you've been enjoying the spoilers for A Private Little War - there are plenty more to come. It's a jam-packed expansion, and there's some stuff in there that I hope will make some of you very happy. And happiness is very much the topic of today's question.

I've had a really difficult week. I struggle with my mental health at the best of times, and 2020 has been pretty far from the best of times. This week, I've struggled to respond to messages, to sleep, to wake up, to eat wisely, to get work done, and to just be a human at times. Don't worry - I'm okay, and it's just the ebb-and-flow of managing my mental health. But one of the tricks I've learned when things get bad in my brain is to lock onto things that make me happy now, or have made me happy in the past. And I figured that would make a good topic for today.

What makes you happy in First Edition?

Maybe it's building a new deck, or cracking some packs. Maybe it's getting all the characters that appeared in a story together into play at the appropriate mission in-game. Whatever it is, I would love to hear about situations that made you smile in a game of 1E, or anything that makes you happy in the world of 1E.

Thank you for reading. Have a great weekend, and take care of yourselves.

I just got my starter and packs for the Return to Talos IV Voyager Warp Speed tournament this morning. That made me very happy. I love building new decks, especially for sealed events.

I don't think I can do that with my Voyager deck.

I was in a meeting last weekend, and I mentioned a deck I’d played where I’d made George and Gracie Temporal Agents. It’s crazy shit like that which makes me happy!

:D :D :D
Exactly this kind of thing.
One game I brainwashed my opponent's security and used them to abduct and brainwash Picard... that was fun.

.

I love how the game retells stories from episodes/movies in Objectives and Incidents. I love how it is is possible to build those stories into your deck and relive an episode...

Highlights:
These Are the Voyages
They Will Be Coming
Holoprogram: The Voyager Encounter
Hero of the Empire

Imho storytelling is 1e's main strength and attraction, I hope the game never goes down a different path.
Because let's be honest if I want to play a swift card game with gritty mechanics, I play Magic. If I want to relax and delve into the world of Trek I play stccg.

Cartagia wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 9:24 am I love the card designs, especially for personnel and starships. Very crisp, clean, and timeless. It's one of the reasons I never got into 2E - the design feels quintessentially early 2000s.
I'll be honest, my number 1 reason for not getting into 2E is also the layout of those cards. I am unsure if I just don't like 2E layout in general, or if I am just spoiled on 1Es layout. I feel that the image window is just perfect, whereas with 2E, I feel like it's crowed, and maybe that's due to the overlap of the image from the card type, card type logo, and quadrant/points. I feel all of those could have been be moved off the image. 1E never covers the image, in fact on a few occasions, the image breaks the frame with dramatic effect!
