I have gotten this to work
download Hamachi

start a network. give the IP to your opponent and have them join via hamachi

Start a network game in lackey (from the main menu)

Then your opponent needs to join a network game and type in the hamachi given IP (not the one lackey says)

now you have a private peer to peer game and can play.

We've never gotten proxy games to work either, I'm not doing anything that requires adjusting our security settings

Hamchi does require a download, but noting past that, but I also understand if people dont want to use unknown (to them) software
