Today's a set release day, which makes it easy-mode for the 1E Friday Question. :) Here's the announcement article, huzzah huzzah: https://www.trekcc.org/articles/?viewArticle=3540

There are several different ways to "engage" with this set:

* The set was designed entirely around the expansion's preconstructed decks, Chains of Captivity and Chains of Command. These two decks are supposed to be something you can print off, sleeve, shelve, and pull off the shelf whenever you fancy a quick game of Trek -- giving you fun decks with hidden depths that you can play again and again without all the challenges of deckbuilding.

* Those two decks were designed not just to be fun for established players, but as an "intermediate" step between plain-jane starter decks and full-blown Constructed Complete play. These decks are a way to lure your friends into our hobby!

* The new cards also deliberately enable an almost-brand-new deck: the Taken Prisoner [1E-TNG] [Car] build that has been teased but unplayable since forever. They also set up a new variant on [1E-TNG] [Fed]. Either of these new decks could be taken into Constructed Complete play.

* And, naturally, there's the traditional way of engaging with new cards: you can just cherry-pick the ones you like, shoving them into existing decks (or building new decks around them) while ignoring the majority of cards in the set. (I, for one, may never play Deanna Troi (The Next Generation) again, now that Deanna Troi (Showdown: Four Lights) is here!)

How are you planning to digest the brand new Showdown: Four Lights?

With a Taspar Egg chaser and a glass of Kanar, of course. Is there any other way?

My absolute favorite card is Know Your Enemy. I have written a script for a YouTube video all about this cards. My hope was to be able to film it and post it during spoilers, but I completely ran out of time. But this card enables so many cool and different sets of missions, for a lot of different affiliations. I'm very excited to play with it.

Food jokes aside, Taspar Egg better be in that team photo... that's a crazy level of attribute management.

Two of the most interesting cards in this set are Mekar and Belcalis, each of whom is a universal personnel who can free report without relying on the free report gained from [1E-TNG] cards, Mekar atKlingon Restaurant and Belcalis at Central Command. Since these guys are universal, they can just be added as multiples to any [1E-TNG] or all property deck. I was already making a Crell Moset deck and these guys will be a great compliment.

I'm looking forward to it.
I like things that incentivize creative mission selection and am excited to try Know Your Enemy out.

I think Know Your Enemy emphasises the need to be able to search missions by multiple affiliation icons!

These look like a lot of fun! I notice the Federation deck has been given several options to do Dispatch Metagenic Experts on turn 1........

AMS:
Alyssa Ogawa
Toby Russel
Defend Homeworld:
Worf

or
AMS:
Toby Russel
Darian Wallance
Defend Homeworld:
(Beverly Crusher OR Lopez)

I think the Russel/Wallace/Lopez team is the best because you get both the mission specialists out of your deck (so you don't draw them) and you don't give one of your better personnel to the opponent when one of them gets captured.
