Greetings, 'trek fans!
Below is a running list of the 2024 bye / head start earners. As mentioned in the Regional Application article from February, the Regional Championships are currently underway. Top participants at these events can earn a bye / head start for a specific game (1E, 2E, or Tribbles) that can be subsequently cashed in at any Continental Championships. These byes / head starts are awarded to the winner of all Regional events (top 2 finishers if the event had more than 10 players) as well as top finishers at any Nationals event. In situations where the winner already has earned a bye / head start, this prize will be "handed down" to the next highest finishing player who does not already have a bye / head start.
In addition, players can earn a two-round bye / double head start for the World Championships by winning a Continental Championships event within the same calendar year. The second-place finisher at Continentals will also receive a one-round bye or head start at Worlds.
As is tradition, the World Champion earns a two-round bye / double head start at the following year's World Championships and a one-round bye / head start at the following year's Continentals Championships of their choice. The World Championship runner-up also receives a one-round bye / head start at both the following year's World Championship and the Continental Championship event of their choice.
A final path towards a bye / head start is if players reach a threshold of Masters points in the previous year. This bye overlaps with other earned byes and does not get handed down nor cause a hand down. (There were limited Masters events in 2023 so it is unlikely this threshold will ultimately be reached.)
I will try to keep this list updated, checking roughly once a week for completed events that will add to this list.
