My sister and I are kind of nerdy about this movie.

I rarely post anything here, but I am just watching this new show on Netflix, Zero Day.

In there, without any spoilers, someone takes a quote from Ben Franklin.

He was supposed to have said: 'We should not sacrifice freedom for safety'.
The protagonist corrects the person and said that the quote is actually 'We should not sacrifice liberty for safety'.

Can someone explain to me the key difference between 'liberty' and 'freedom' as a term?

I never thought about the difference until I saw that particular scene.

Interwebs helped me out on this one as I couldn't phrase my thoughts well:

Liberty refers to the state of being free from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority, emphasizing individual rights and the absence of arbitrary restraints. Freedom, on the other hand, is the ability to act or think as one wants without hindrance, often associated with self-determination and personal choice.
