This, as it turns out, is a lie.

Lots of people dislike cards in playtesting and voice their dislike without repercussion. They are even encouraged to do so!

Brian voiced his dislike for the people making the cards, in insulting terms. He did so while also voicing his dislike of the cards; that part was fine. When given a warning, he doubled down, and was fired for it. He has been lying about why he was fired ever since.
I'm going to reply to this one more time, because a) I don't appreciate being called a liar, and b) even on the merits this isn't a lie, unless you apply @edgeofhearing 's selective editing of my previous post.

I originally said, in the context of the Varria Missions:
Gee... if only somebody had pointed that out early on...

And if only Designers ever bothered to learn from history....

Can't point those things out though, it's grounds for nerd termination in The Department of Second Edition.
Now, let's be clear. The Varria missions were developed WAY after I was no longer associated in any way formally with The Department of Second Edition. Still, I hear things, and I see things, and I did get an early look at these missions, and I popped a flare when I did because I was concerned about the span/points/mission difficulty combination being out of balance. I was told by highly placed sources within The Department of Second Edition that a) these missions had been thoroughly tested and b) that nothing was broken about them - they were well balanced given the hoops you had to jump through.

I wasn't sold, but that's not even the real issue, so I'll leave that point there.

Now the SECOND part, was absolutely one of the reasons I got Nerd Fired, and @edgeofhearing basically said so himself:
This, as it turns out, is a lie.

What I said at the time was that Designers were failing to learn from past mistakes and in so doing were breaking the game to the point of being unplayable. I straight up called out that behavior, and in so doing I got accused of "personal attacks" - I don't remember the exact words I said and I don't have access to the posts in question, and haven't since I was removed from the playtest forums 3 years ago, but anyone who's seen my posts knows I have no problem being direct with how I feel about things, and calling bullshit when bullshit needs called.

So yeah, maybe my TONE was harsh, and maybe I hurt some feelings, I won't deny those possibilities. But to state that I was lying about why I was nerd fired in this thread, when I pointed out a direct thing I got nerd fired for, is at best factually incorrect, and at worst, disingenuous.

The ironic thing is that I literally told Charlie the day before all of this blew up that I was past the nerd politics, as it's clear that The Department of Second Edition as currently constituted enjoys the support of the community (at least the part of the community that's still here), and there's no real appetite for change. And that as a result of that realization, I have found myself less and less interested in 2e anyway, for many of the reasons I pointed out 3 years ago (and before) regarding the state of Design, and the overall direction (or lack thereof) of the game. The latter part is still unfortunately true, but if I'm going to get accused of lying when I didn't I'm going to engage on that, because that's bullshit.

So yeah, I didn't lie, @edgeofhearing. I'm not sure why you felt the need to call me a liar, but on this one you're flat wrong. Whether or not you want to acknowledge that is a choice I'll leave to you.

It’s because you continue to act like you were fired for disliking the cards and/or providing constructive feedback, rather than for being hostile towards design and playtesting.

As for the thread’s original topic, I played both the new Temporal mission and Bell, Bashir and Sisko. None of the personnel made big differences in any of my games. I noticed Rabal has all the skills for the new mission, and costs 2, so I really built the deck around him. My first and third games were aided by destaffing my opponents early, and in each case I attempted early and often. In my middle game, I surprisingly drew no Transporters for a long time, which forced me to alter my mission order, to disastrous effect. Not only did I eat a Necessary Execution, Scott had a bunch of unique personnel that are through my dilemmas, but would not have if their abilities were off. Lots of fun, would play it again, but would probably change the dilemma pile.

Hostile towards design and playtesting...

That's an interesting way to put it. I was about to yell at you for overstating the case, as the term hostile could imply threats of violence, which I never did, but a quick Google search returned "unfriendly" "antagonistic" and "opposed". So in that context, especially "opposed" there's probably some accuracy in your statement. I definitely oppose the way The Department of Second Edition has handled (or not handled) a lot of things over the years, and I oppose Designers making broken cards that kill the game, especially when those decisions slow a clear lack of awareness of obvious previous design mistakes. So on that front I'm guilty as charged.

The "Unfriendly" and "Antagonistic" parts though... well, I won't necessarily deny it, but I'll also say that's a two way street, as I was on the receiving end of a lot of unfriendliness and antagonism too. So in that respect, if being "Hostile" is a fireable offense, there's a few people in The Department of Second Edition that should also be out of a Nerd job, but won't be removed, because a) the people with the nerd power don't care about being hypocrites and clearly the community is also ok with it because they keep voting to retain The Powers That Be in The Department of Second Edition, but also b) at this point, so many people have been run off or left on their own that there's nobody left who would want the job.

But it's much easier to silence the voice telling you you're doing a bad job than it is doing some introspection and considering whether or not that voice maybe has a point.
