Hello,
I have a mix of new questions:
1) Homefront: Does Homefront played on Earth have an effect on Seat of Starfleet game text on a Time location? Does “here” include also the corresponding Time Location? (I assume Homefront is played on a mission, not on a Time location)
2) HQ: Defensive Measures: When this card can be revealed in time to disallow the opponent to solve my mission? Before the start of the attempt, as a valid response to the start of the attempt, or after all dilemmas are cleared and the mission requirements are checked?
3) Defend Homeworld: How the reply to the question above changes if the HQ: Defensive Measures has to be downloaded first using Defend Homeworld?
4) Shuttlepod: Can I use the Shuttlepod text and report it to NX-class ship and then launch it if I do not have in play Launch Bay or any other card allowing to launch shuttlecrafts? I would expect report yes, launch no, correct?

Homefront plays on the mission, and "here" does not include the time location, so reporting at Seat of Starfleet is unaffected.
2) HQ: Defensive Measures: When this card can be revealed in time to disallow the opponent to solve my mission? Before the start of the attempt, as a valid response to the start of the attempt, or after all dilemmas are cleared and the mission requirements are checked?
revealing HQ: DM is a valid response to your opponent starting that mission attempt. if you let your opponent clear dilemmas though, it will be too late.
3) Defend Homeworld: How the reply to the question above changes if the HQ: Defensive Measures has to be downloaded first using Defend Homeworld?
the download function of Defend Homeworld can only be used as an action during your own turn. if that is your defensive plan to get HQ: DM, you need to plan one turn ahead, and hope your opponent doesn't surprise you...

correct. you can report it aboard, but it will be stuck there until you get a card that allows launching.

Isn't the default that you report ships in space, not landed or carried on another ship? That is, I'm not sure one ship can carry another ship without a card in play to enable that.

So doesn't the shuttle pod just show up next to the NX-class ship? Then you need to use the transporters on the NX-class ship to get the personnel off of the shuttlepod.

i stand corrected... according to the glossary, for a ship to "report to" another ship means "anywhere present with that ship". that only includes "aboard" if you actually have a card that allows it to be carried. so the actual answer is: no & no.

OK, it is clear now. Thanks. My original understanding was that the shuttlepod reports "inside" the NX-class ship only using this reporting ability. But now, if Shuttlepod Two is reported in space to NX-class ship at Seat of Starfleet it would also trigger HQ: Shipyards seeded there. That would be a nice bonus.

Steve, I wonder why the download of a security personnel or a HQ related card via Defend homeworld's last sentence is limited only to your turn. I have not found any relating text that would supoort this either in the glossary or the rules.
Secondly, regarding ASP which states: download a personnel once each turn. I would argue that this ability could be used only in owner's turn. Am I right on this one?

You're taking an action.

Absent any other timing parameters, taking an action can only be done during your execute orders phase.

And you are correct, the ASP download can only happen on your turn.

Using DH is taking an action but playing Going to the Top is not, because it is an interrupt. Same goes for the dw via holodeck door, therefore you can download personnel in between free/regular plays. I am checking these rules Qs because from time to time they tend to come up during our sessions.

Right, but details matter. GTTT is an Interrupt, and Interrupts have their own timing rules: they play 'at any time' which in practical terms means at any time on either players turn, between other actions (we'll leave valid responses for another day).

Doorways are the same thing: they play at interrupt speed, but only on your turn.

But my original statement stands: Absent a card or rule that gives you a different timing window, you can only take actions during the execute orders segment of your turn.

hi Vlad,

Brian beat me to it, but i agree with everything he said.

i think what's confusing you may be the fact that your playgroup hasn't been doing 1E for a long time. the timing of Defend Homeworld's download (and similar actions) was changed in 2010, around the time Modern Format (then called OTF) was formalized! before that change, basically any action that downloaded a card was allowed in the "play cards" segment. under the current rules, that isn't true anymore. see https://www.trekcc.org/op/1e_rulebook/Glossary.php#turn.

(among other things, that's the reason for The Unrelenting Lust for Profit's strange wording - to restore the ability from Decipher times to use the 1st Rule's download during your first turn's "play cards" segment.)

a lot of minor rules have been changed over the years. most of the changes are actually simplifications (e.g. this change *removed* a special case from the "turn" rules). unfortunately for us old school players this means that we remember lots of little rules that aren't true anymore, and it's rather hard to verify the absence of something in 100 pages of rules...
you might find the rules changes database useful reading, when you've got a day or two :)
